TEHRAN (BNO NEWS) -- Firefighters on Friday managed to extinguish a fire on an oil pipeline in southwestern Iran after 10 hours, state-run media reported.

The Fars News Agency reported that the explosion occurred in the oil-rich province of Khuzestan at a major oil pipeline, which transports crude oil from Qale Naar town to the provincial capital city of Ahvaz, at 1:30 a.m. local time. Hundreds of firefighters took more than 10 hours to put out the fire, which spread 300 meters (984 feet) wide with flames that leapt 40 meters (131 feet) into the sky.

No one was seriously injured in the incident, according to Fars.

The pipe is one of the country's longest with the capacity to transfer up to 4,000 barrels per day. Iran is the world's fourth-largest oil producer and sits on the world's second largest natural gas reserves.
