JAKARTA (BNO NEWS) -- Seven people were rescued from a burning building in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta on Tuesday evening, the Jakarta Globe reported on Wednesday.

The fire broke out at around 5.30 p.m. local time on the fifth floor of the Adira building in central Jakarta, trapping seven people on several floors. It took most rescue workers nearly an hour to arrive at the scene due to heavy traffic in the area, the newspaper reported.

A reporter from the newspaper described the rescue as 'dramatic' and said those trapped waved frantically for help. Firefighters used ladder trucks to rescue the people who were trapped before they were rushed to an area hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

None of the injuries were believed to be serious, and the seven residents appeared to have escaped serious burn injuries. A firefighter was also taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

It was not immediately known what caused the fire.
