Wonder if you guys know the answer to this.

I am currently under a teaching contract for a year till 31 March 2012. As such, my work permit and VISA expires exactly on 31 March 2012. I am not intending to renew my contract after 31 March 2012.

The question is 'how I am going to leave Thailand on the same day which I have to teach for the last day of my contract (i.e. 31 March 2012)?'.

Is it the norm for such a scenario to ask the school to release me a few days earlier than 31 March 2012? Should this be the only solution, I am afraid that I would not receive my March 2012 salary in good time because of the school only issues salary at the end of each month.

What are your views and advices on this, folks?

You will have to leave the country when your permission to stay ends. If you visit immirgation on the 31st you could get an extra days to leave the country, if you can show a ticket out of the country within 7 days and will have to pay 1,900 baht for the "extension".

Suspect not much teaching at the end of March, so they might give you a few days. But that is up to the school.

A common problem. I believe that you can pay a 500 baht per day charge for overstaying your current visa. That might be cheaper and easier than doing a visa extension application to stay just a day or two.

At the risk of stating the obvious, you don't need to tell your school that you are leaving immediately. You can be vague about your exact plans.
