Thai Translation Of An Address

I'm trying to find the Thai for an address in Sa Kaew. The province is ok, as I reckon it's

???????,

given in my dictionary and guide book.

The districts and subprovince are:

Talangnai, Wang Nam Yen

'Moo' in Thai would also be useful, except that I found 'village' or 'mòo bâhn' in a vocabulary, and could use the 'mòo' part of it, except that the apparent preceding 'h' in the Thai script puzzles me.

And the vowel symbol under the m seems to have come out other than the key I thought I pressed, and there also seems to be a line above, which I cannot see on the keyboard.

What does Wang Nam Yen mean? A search has revealed another Wang Nam Yen near Phuket, and it seems also to be the name of a political faction.

I've now previwed it and find my hard efforts on the thai script have been converted to ???????s. What did I do wrong?

Wang Nam Yen = Cool Water Palace (best guess, not seeing the Thai text)

Not sure what you have done wrong with your Thai language efforts exactly. It could be that you are using a browser that confuses the board somehow... but I dont know really.

Talangnai, Wang Nam Yen = ตำบลตาหลังใน อำเภอวังน้ำเย็น

It's in the province Sae Kaew = จังหวัดสระแก้ว

You can abbreviate ตำบล (tambon) อำเภอ (amphur) and จังหวัด (jangwat) to write the address as just ต.ตาหลังใน อ.วังน้ำเย็น จ.สระแก้ว

"Moo" is หมู่, and the "h" is silent, there for no apparent reason except to puzzle foreign learners of the Thai language.

That's simple. It converts a low class consonant to a high class consonant if there otherwise wouldn't be a corresponding high class consonant. You need it to be able to write the tone of หมู่ /mòo/ - without it you can only write /moo/, /môo/ and /móo/.

I've now previwed it and find my hard efforts on the thai script have been converted to ???????s. What did I do wrong?

Which browser did you use? Which operating system?

It reminds me of a nasty trick played by Outlook - if you don't specify the right encoding, it silently converts the unsupported characters to question marks. However, you don't need to worry about the encoding with the browsers Internet Explorer 6.0 and Firefox - IE 6.0 works fine on Windows 2000 and Windows XP, and Firefox works fine on Windows XP.

Quite likely, as I've had problems with downloads and security concerns by internet banking systems recently. I use Safari 1.0.3 (v85.8.1) on Mac 10.2.8. so all the post about Windows passed me by - presumptuous...
