Thai-Cambodian border talks set for 23-25 Aug

BANGKOK, 21 August 2011 (NNT)- The Army is preparing for upcoming talks with the Cambodian counterpart in a bid to promote cooperation along the border

In the meeting of Regional Border Committee (RBC), both sides are expected to discuss the bilateral trade, tourism, anti-narcotic measures, and border troop reductions, according to Colonel Prawit Hukaew, spokesperson for the Army Region 2.

Lieutenant General Thawatchai Samutsakorn, Commanding General of the Thai Army Region 2 will lead the Thai negotiation team. Major General Chea Mon, Commander of Military Region 4 will lead the Cambodian team. Thai and Cambodian governors of the border provinces will also participate in the meeting.

The meeting is scheduled during August 23-25 in Nakhon Ratchasima. Talks of RBC sub-committees are set for August 23. The results will be discussed in the meeting of RBC committees during August 24-25.

Unluckily, no oil or gas there or Khun Thaksin could sit in the talks and offer one of his companys to extract the oil and gas, but only for the benefit of lcal peoples..

Let's hope that with no Thai ultranationalists in positions where they can influence the government now, things will go rather better than under the Democrats.

While I'm not a fan of Thaksin & cronies, I do believe Pheu Thai is the party that can get bilateral relations with Cambodia back to something resembling friendship. That will be good for both countries.
