I Wish It Was Paid For

Having spent 6 weeks deliberating and trying to make a reasoned judgement on which car to buy ,I made a judgement 50% on emotion because I loved the look of the car . I bought a Toyota Wish the Sport Tourer model with all the options leather seats arm rests , double DVD monitors...... fully loaded and apart from a rear scuff plate I have no pleasure in searching out and fitting after market extras .I enjoyed that task with my Honda Jazz and saved a lot of cash . My wife now has the Jazz pleasure ( a truly fabulous car )I drove it for a year 3 hours per day 6 days a week .

The Wish is so far better than I imagined and after 2500 kilometres is a real pleasure to drive and the family love it and economy ( I have a lead foot ) is 11 kilometers to the litre from new and now showing some improvement as the engine loosens a bit .

However despite assuring me an English copy of the Handbook would not be a problem (They are printed in Thailand for Malaysia and Singapore) I must wait 2 months the dealer is trying but no success Toyota Head office via email refuse to reply so different from Honda who were super and couriered english documentation for me in 2 days when I bought the jazz.

If you want to find a more stressful situation than teaching your wife to drive ...try having her read and translate a handbook for you .I came near to a heart attack with frustration even looking back I can see no fuuny side to it .

I do have an actual question the car is equipped with smart entry and so called Toyota total security system ...but it is not so total ....ie no auto lock when starting and breaking the first time , or when achieving a set speed or after a time limit .

Also there does not appear to be a sounding alarm / siren to indicate the alarm is armed or the car is being broken into . Does any body know is this an option or an extra ?????. Once again the cheap after market central locking and alarm for the Honda is better , auto lock , siren alarm and includes the find the lost car in the car park button ( used all to frequently )

if the alarm system is similar to the toyota vigo , then it can be set to sound the horn when turning the alarm on or off , or locking the doors.

setting this up however ,is a confusing procedure , even with the english handbook.

it involves pressing the alarm buttons in a cetain combination , then waiting 5 seconds then turning on the ignition for 3 seconds and so on.

i had to take mine back to toyota to get them to do it , and they didnt find it easy either.

the key can also be used to sound the alarm if you cant find your car.

the central locking locks automatically when the car reaches about 20kph.

in all probability your toyota wish has the same features , enquire at the service centre.

On further investigation the Wish cannot easily have an an alarm sounder ( Toyota can do for 13,000 thirteen thousand linked to the horn or add another 6500 for a siren ) This is info from 3 Toyota dealers ...So buyer beware !!!!!!

Next try is with the after market shops to find a clever guy to make it work .

The latest update

following confusion with multiple dealer visits to get a consensus of opinions the reality is .

the security system is an imobiliser with a clever roll over coding to stop the car being stolen ....it does not have any sounder or alarm ...so you may tow the car away , smash the windows , steal the contents ( 75000 bahts worth of DVD set on this model ) and do so in perfect peace Toyota HQ comment it is state of the art and top spec just spend another 25000 baht plus to make it work ... I repeat it was sold to me as the best alarm by the dealer ....my 4000 baht set up on the jazz is 10 times better .

Also the existing system is faulty it should ( as advised by Toyota HQ ) lock all doors after 20 kilometers reached ...guess what it certainly does not .

The english hand book the previous 2 months ...yes 2 months wait is now a promised 2 weeks ....we will see .

The car is great.... the dealers and Toyota service are ****ing usless so far

Have you tried downloading spec sheet from english site EG Australia?Might give you some info on the alarm function & features.

Sorry for the slow response ... I finally got to talk to a Toyoat specialist from the HQ ....the car has a very clever smart entry and immobiliser but no alarm sounder or intruder alert . Unless I spend the cash ...do not get me wrong what its has is supurb , efficient , clever , usefull... keyless entry ...
