As the title suggests, in the application for a UK settlement visa, do I need to give the original marriage certificate or just a copy? I'm assuming its just a copy?

When we were married we were given two original certificates so I see no problem handing in an original. I'm putting in the original AND a copy as with most other documents as detailed in the VFS guidance. They send the originals back anyway when the decision is returned. From the VFS site:-

  • You must provide original documents with a photocopy of each original document you are submitting (including your passport photograph page). In particular, you should include original documents relating to birth, marriage, divorce and death. If you are not able to include originals of these then you should send certified copies. Failure to submit original documents or certified copies may mean your application is delayed or refused. Your original documents might not be returned to you if you do not provide photocopies. For your convenience photocopying services are available at the visa application centre (fee payable)

Regards

Do I give my original passport (husbands passport, wife applying for visa) or just a copy?

No you don't give your original passport. I'm supplying a scanned copy which I had certified by a UK solicitor (including pages showing Thailand stamps). You can self-certify but I just thought it would look better to have a solicitor do it. I just walked into a solicitors and they did it there and then. I did call few first and they told me there would be a £5 charge....but when I got there they just did it, no fee biggrin.gif

what about the floor plan of the house/flat, do I just make this myself? there is no original to copy!

That's what I've done, drawn out my own floor plan. Plus included photos of all the rooms. I've then supplied originals of the documents relating to my house e.g. yearly mortgage statements, council tax bill, Gas & Electric bills, water bill, home insurance policy certificate, etc etc

There are many FREE "Online Floor Plan Generators" on the web.... just google a few and have a play, It took me about 20 mins to produce a reasonable looking professional floor plan with measurements etc. for both floors of my house. ;)
