Hello all,

just wondering what the import duty rates are on wholesale clothing from China into Thailand ?

Or where one would find out?

Cheer in advance :-)

The import duty rates and preferential rates used to be in www.customs.go.th, but cannot find the direct link right now.

If you can confirm that the shipment will be accompanied by a C/O Form E, and exactky what clothing you are talking about, we can check manually.

HI why do I have to pay 978 baht on import tax for 2 polo shirts from US ?

I asked them to send it to me as a gift , but the post office still want me to pay import tax .

Customs does not exempt gifts from Duty... so you still have to pay import duty. No time to double check right now, but if memory serves me right..I think it 60% for new clothes and 30% for used

Two ways to do it:

1) with Form E from the supplier. Must be 100% exact and accurate for what is being shipped, to whom, from whom. Usually suppliers use an agent for this and will charge you about $30-50

2) Pay sales tax and duty (30 + 7%)

If it has a brand label it may be more.

but new clothes are 30% (without brand)

used clothes I'm not sure about

http://igtf.customs.go.th/igtf/en/main_frame.jsp Then you imput the first 4 digit of the taffif item. New clothes are 6201, 6202, 6203, up to 6217

You can see the preferential rates as well here is an example

http://igtf.customs.go.th/igtf/en/main_frame.jsp

This shows that clothes from China are exempt. So all you would pay is 7% VAT

There would be a specfic invoice of origin before the country of origin would be accepted.

Solution is to truck them into Thailand from China via Laos. Go through a small border crossing and then try to avoid the customs agents. Most of the time if it's a small truck they don't care much anyway. Otherwise pay a small bribe and your goods will come through easily. Once the new 4th Thai-Lao friendship bridge at Chiang Khong opens, it's only a matter of time before the market is flooded with Chinese imports such as clothing.
