I have lived in Thailand for 3 years now and all my mail is being forwarded to a friend's address in Australia. When he has time he rings me on Skype and we go through my mail. A good friend and he is happy to continue to do this for me. I look after him financially to thank him for his help. However he is getting older and I really would like to take away the burden from him of doing this if I can.

I would like to know is there another way of getting my mail forwarded to me at a reasonable cost other than through Australia post who charge in my opinion an excessive fee to send mail to Thailand. What are other Aussies living in Thailand doing with their mail?

Any sensible replies are appreciated.

I don't understand .The sender pays the postage. not the addressee.I get all my mail sent to me here in Thailand, from Oz.. However ,I had difficulty with mail from my Post Office to my village .Some went missing. What did come would take around 12-15 days to travel 15 kilometres. I cured the problem by renting a Post Office Box, at my local Post Office. Works well. Very happy

Thank you for your reply.

Not sure what you don't understand. All my mail is presently sent to my friend's address in Australia not Thailand. Perhaps I will need to write to all of the companies sending me mail and advise them of my Thai address and see if they will send letters here and then wait and see if they actually arrive!. I have been reluctant to do this as I was unsure of how good the mail service is here with letters coming from overseas.

Good to hear that your mail is arriving safely in Thailand albeit with some difficulty which you have now fixed. with the post box.

You are extremely lucky to get any post from Australia , just last week I purchased a laptop online, by mistake it some how ended up at apost shop 200kms away, they notified me of their mistake but would not for some unknown reason deliver it, so I had to collect it, last year My military medals were stolen, the british govt sent the replacements registered mail by australia post who lost them, they sent another set which were digitally tracked ,as far as brisbane where they disappeared, after a 14day inquiry and search they were eventually found under a conveyor belt, have you considered carrier pigeon :jap:

I didn't understand WHY you get your mail sent to your friends address in Oz..Instead of direct to you.To clarify ,mail sent from Oz addressed to me ,in English, has never gone AWOL. Mail addressed to Thais has .The suspicion being ,"someone" thought it might contain money. However a Post Office Box is excellent security. Costs me B 200 per year

I have no problem sending mail, to Oz. I regularly send my children ,1/2 Thai, who are studying in Oz, small gifts .We have never experienced any problem. Everything I have sent has arrived safely. They too send me gifts -once again no problem. Interesting ly , things sent from Thailand to Oz, arrive much quicker than things sent from Oz to T'land

Are you talking about a mail drop service? There are several in Australia.

About five years ago I was going to wander around Asia without a fixed address. One of my banks objected to me having an ever changing Asian hotel address. The solution was to use an Australian mail drop service.

I used "Continental Relay Mail Drop". Their website is still up so they may be still operating. They assign you a pretend street address because some institutions won't accept post office box numbers.

As an example my address was:

Joe Bloggs

Suite 111

9 Tanbark Circuit

NSW 2747.

My bank was happy to send mail to that "street address".

Continental Relay hold your mail for you until you contact them with a forwarding address. Then they send a parcel containing all your mail to you. I never had any problems with Continental Relay, except for the expense and the fact they send you (and charge you for) your junk mail.

There are several similar companies in Australia, with different costs and services. These days they can even open and scan your mail and email you the scan instead of the original letter - thus avoiding the Thai postal system. SOSMail.com.au does this. Google "mail drop service australia" for other providers.
