Esri Garmin Map On A Pc ?

Featured Replies

Has anyone figured out how to view an ESRI Garmin map on a PC ?

I know that ESRI has a large scale map of Thailand on a CD called TRIP & WAYPOINT MANAGER ASIA version 1.00 but that does not show streets and towns and cities

I want to plan a route and mark my waypoints and view them on my PC street by street

Plug Garmin unit containing the ERSI map into your PC, run Garmin Basecamp software.

http://www.garmin.com/us/products/onthetrail/basecamp

I use it on my Mac to plot routes from the ERSI map which I then copy to Motion GPS on the iPhone, very useful.

Well I still use mapsource (has already trip and waypoint manager) it gives a map of the whole world but very rough, only the highways. But if you have that you can ad so many maps as you want I use esri 11.1 a map of North Thailand and a Lao map last 2 maps are made by Mr.Koopmans. ( the Lao map is for sale by Eagle gps)

Mapsource is more easy to use then basecamp.

Ben,

did you have to buy another Map to load into Mapsource ? And if not, how did you get your map into Mapsource ?

With Basecamp, it just reads the Very Detailed Map (ESRI / TSM) from within the GPS automatically and you can plan routes.

The only disadvantage is, that everything on the MAP is displayed in Thai Language and you can't change that.

You have the dual language ESRI V11.1 map installed in your nuvi 2575. Disconnect the GPS from your computer and switch to the English language map, close BaseCamp, reconnect to your computer and then restart BaseCamp. That may work.

Thanks for the tip :wai: Much appreciated.

But it unfortunately doesn't work.

I've already sent an email to ESRI regarding this (among other things) and their reply was:

<snip> There is one limitation for the dual map units like nuvi 2575, the BaseCamp will only display map in Thai

The tool you want is cgpsmapper..

You will need to unlock your map and split the map tiles. Thats how the map hackers can make a Mapsource version from the ESRI data packs.
