in bkk, what is average, and worst case time it takes to renew a passport?

You are right. Based on the additional information added by the OP after you made your post, he is a US national, ie he is applying for his new passport at the US embassy.

Here is another thread that has some links that may answer all your questions, I would expect to wait about 2-3 weeks, but it could be faster than that.

Believe most are ready in about 10 days but current US turn around for mail expedited service is listed at 2-3 weeks so believe that would be worst case as appears Embassies get as good or better service.

Not so, according to the US government.

There are websites explaining how to 'renew' US passports.

Fees are not the same for 'new' vs 'renewed' passports.

Do you renew your drivers licence, or get a new one? Both, actually. Many times, when you renew it, you get a new one with a new photo.

Not sure if OP just wants info that far out, or if they want to renew that early.

Unless you are running out of pages, you can wait a while. As mentioned above, it's not a very long wait to get it done.

I just "renewed" my second passport (2 year passport) and it took 2 weeks (10 business days). They emailed when it was ready, and since I was out of country they held onto to it for a month when I could finally come back. All in all, I find the BKK Embassy more helpful then other embassies I deal with.
