Hi,

I moved to Bangkok to work for a multinational company they offered a relocation package. When i got my first salary slip, the relocation fee was included however this came with a whopping 20% tax. I am not sure how is this tax called.

My salary alone was deducted by about 15% tax. I am thinking the bonuses that will be given by end of the year would most likely be decreased by 20% again.

I do not have an idea on the legalities of this but if anyone knows can you please shed some light?

Thanks,

HP

Guessing the amount has been added to your gross and taxed accordingly......would say that is perfectly legal

Doesnt seem to be anyting out of order

If the Thai tax code is like the U.S. tax code when it comes to job Moving Expenses, when you file your Thai income tax you may be to deduct the "moving expenses" portion of your relocation package. That is, if your documented moving expenses is 100K baht and the relocation package amount was 150K then you would only pay taxes on 50K baht. But as mentioned, I don't know if the Thai tax code operates the same way. Good luck.
