Suffering from broken heart, and no money

n10-640.jpg

A Swiss tourist apparently lost his mind outside the 7-Eleven on Beach Road, at Soi 11, where police officers found him loudly bewailing the cruelty of Thai women and begging for food from passers-by.

Philippe Hugli was allegedly left destitute by his Thai girlfriend, which apparently pushed him over the edge.

The man was identified as Philippe Hugli, age 42. Officers escorted him to Pattaya police station where they took care of him until he calmed down. They also contacted the Swiss Embassy, as Hugli’s visa had expired, and suggested he be sent home. Police watched over him until the arrival of the officials, saying they had no intention to detain him as his mental condition could prove dangerous to himself or others.

Hugli was reportedly suffering from dementia due to disappointment that a Thai woman had broken off a relationship with him and left him broke.

I'd agree I wish lads wouldnt lose all sense when they come to Thailand - you certainly wouldnt do this in the west, so why in thailand? Get to know a person and even then there is no guaranteed.

Not exactly news. You could exchange this guy's name for thousands of others, but at the end of the day he's only got his own naievity and stupidity to blame.

Golden rule #1, live and love within your means.

he's only got his own naievity and stupidity to blame.

We dont know the prior circumstances, so saying this is a little harsh, there is propably a Thai person who should take at least some of the blame for his downfall

I'm thinking he probably had issues before his meltdown in the LOS.

We've all had our heart and wallet broken before but didn't end up sobbing on the curb.

I'm sure his pain is real and I wish him the best, but if you fall to pieces over romance or money, what are you going to do when something really devastating happens, :D

Good luck to him anyway. :o

well at least he can think himself lucky he didnt do anything rash like stabbing her 24 times or leaping off the balcony .he goes home in 1 piece with a badly deranged head thats all. take an aspirin for a broken heart .

Your not gonna drain me of all my cash tomorrow, i hope Prof

You're darn tooting I am!! Its been a rough week!!!

At the end of the day you have to keep your wits about you. Lose the plot for a second and you wind up like this tragic bloke.

He's only 43 so hopefully he'll have time to recover and regain something from the ashes of his life.

As we all know, Pattaya is full of tragedies. Hard luck tales abound as we saw inn the post about the Thai wonam who lost it when she was traded in for a new model. Sometimes life kicks you in the teeth but more often than not, if you keep your feet in reality, you have a greater chance of survival.

I agree. Sad story. Has any TV member ever straightened someone out? Have you ever snapped someone out of one of these downward spirals? On nights out I've had my wingman tell me it's time to go if my judgement was becoming poor. In turn I have done the same for him when things didn't look like they were going in the right direction. But that's another topic.

Have you ever intervened to stop someone from going down the road this man has gone down? Do most people have to hit rock bottom before they will listen?

The trouble is Aughie that sometimes you can tell someone until you are blue in the face that they are getting stung silly, but if they are c**t struck then they just aren't going to listen.

Its happened to me recently. All I can do is sit here while a mate of mine gets stung senseless by a girl 35 years his junior because his brains are located south of his belly button when it comes to Thai women.

I've told him and told him that his girl is a 'wrong 'un' and he's reacted by sulking and heading off to the back of beyond with this slapper (there is no other way to describe her I'm afraid - apologies to those who may be offended by this term)

Sad thing is that he always used to laugh at other blokes when it happened to them and say things like 'that'll never happen to me pal' etc. 'Som nam nah' maybe?

So what to do? Maybe this guys mates tried to warn him too andhe reacted angrily to them and told them to butt out.

Who knows? Don't we all know best when it comes to relationships?

Even more so don't we all know best when it comes to relationships with TGs as we dread looking inexperienced in the eyes of our fellow expats?

I have a feeling that one day I will be scraping my mate up from outside a 7-11 but at least he'll have me there unlike the unfortunate in the OP.

My heart goes out to him and those who have to clean up the mess but still at the end of the day had he had a reality check he would never have reached this awful juncture.

This is the paragraph that makes me wonder how accurate the newspaper article is.

If his "dementia" is real and permanent, how did he manage to leave his country and get into Thailand?

If his "dementia" is temporary due to alcohol, drugs, women or whatever, then at his age he should know better.

Either way, he needs assistance from a good shrink.

Piss or not, there are always other factors which we have more control over.

This guy lost control and wound up like this.

Truth is it could happen to any of us. Its easy for us to judge as we don't know the exact circumstances yet I feel we all know deep down what happened to this poor man.

saying they had no intention to detain him as his mental condition could prove dangerous to himself or others.

I find this the worrying part , surely in light of the above statement it would be prudent to detain him in some manner.

What happens if he now does something rash to himself or the "lady" involved? ...............in the West the authorities would be culpable, would they not?

Since when have the BIB been social workers?

They were able to pass him off and they did.

True true.

Iv'e been in his shoes here before, ended up getting thrown out the Dogs <deleted> over it.

They can be funny things emotions especially when coupled with drink.

i think these people bring there problems with them , thinking that Thailand is going to be the answer and in the end they are doing what they would have done back at home, only later rather than sooner

I still don't get it, and probably never will. I've met a lot of lovely ladies in Thailand over the past few years, but have never fallen for one so hard that it made me bonkers.

Perhaps it's my cynical, suspicious nature. Any time someone speaks to me, I automatically expect that they want something from me (trust no one, the truth is out there).

I think I had my heart broken once, when I was 13. I got rid of it shortly after that, as it was a liability. Now I have a cold, hard, black stone, about the size of a cherry pit, where my heart used to be.

I look at it as a game. They're out to "get me Lucky Charms" (i.e. money) and I'm out to get "it" (i.e. a long-term, stable and happy relationship in which we can grow old together while watching the grandchildren play with the soi dogs. NOT !) :o

I think the saddest part will be when this poor git gets his act together back in the land of hot coco, then comes back to Thailand for another go around (not having learned a d@mned thing from this experience)
