Wireless Broadband In Pattaya?

A friend just emailed me this; i had installed yesterday a wireless connection to the internet. the system keeps me hooked up to the internet 24/7. never off or cut off. got an average of 45kbps hook-up connection on the tel line but now i get 230.4kbps hook-up speed. Cost b7,000 for the hand phone transmitter looking devise & b1000 per month for the user fee connection that cancels out the local monthly tel line cost of b600 to b900.

He's not a techie, but neither am I.

Any other experiences?

You're most probably talking about hutch's data service...

Uses the cdma network (as oposite to the gsm network)

Connects indeed at 230kbps, but expect practical speeds of around 100 kbps.

Still way better then dial-up, and indeed no phonebill anymore.

Works pretty good, I know of a few guys happy with it...

Slows down a bit during peak hours but not dramatically.

Stick it in you laptop and you have pretty much everywhere acceptable access.

Works mainly in the BKK area and Eastern Seaboard.

Not much coverage upcountry though
