KATHMANDU (BNO NEWS) -- At least seven people were killed on Saturday and more than a dozen others were injured when a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall buried several buildings in western Nepal, local media reported on Sunday.

The landslide happened in the village of Mijhing in Rolpa district, burying at least eight houses and several shops. At least 26 people and possibly more were also buried, the República newspaper reported.

Rescue teams from the Nepal Army are assisting in the search and rescue operation. The news report said at least 19 people were rescued and taken to an area hospital, while seven bodies have been recovered. Several people are feared missing.

Nepal's rainy monsoon season began in June and ends in September. Dozens of people have been killed and thousands more have been displaced due to landslides, flooding and other accidents attributed to the season's weather. Last week, seven people were killed after a rain-triggered landslide swept away their hut in western Nepal.
