Does anyone have experience using Bangkok Bank Visa Debit Cards outside Thailand? If so, how much did the Bank charge you for using ATM's abroad and how much were you charged for making purchases using the VISA facilities.

I plan on spending around $AUD8000 (240,000 Baht) on shopping for electronics in Singapore and am trying to decide whether I'm better off using my Australian VISA debit card which charges $AUD5 (150 Baht) per overseas withdrawl plus a 1.5 % currency conversion fee or my Bangkok Bank one

OK... Just called the Bank and they answered my question for anyone who is interested. Overseas withdrawl is just 100 Baht with no currency converstion fee. Purchases with visa card are free! Brilliant compared to my Aussie bank account. Whats more i have a maximum withdrawl of 500,000 Baht per day compared to the 80,000 ($AUD2000) limit my Aussie bank gives me.

Lambous - interesting.

1. can one use the debit card by just signing a slip also abroad(or is pin required into a terminal)? We discussed that in other threads and have not heard from anyone yet. I have not yet had chance to use it abroad.

2. be carefull as to the conversion fee. It is charged by visa and normally not the bank so your Aussie bank might just be more informed.

Do a test run with both cards the same day - and compare with this homepage which even lets you put in various conversion % fees (see bottom):

http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic it has been VERY close each time I have double checked my visa card(s) withdrawals.

My normal foreign visa charge me 1% conversion fee and no with- drawal fees. It is normal that there are no fees (except conversion) on purchases.

Are you gonna buy me a nice gadget whenin Singapore? :o

Cheers!
