On Wednesday I am going to KL to apply for a non O, 1 year visa based on marriage. I was preparing the documents and I found out that I have lost the certified translation of my marriage certificate. Do they ask it all the time or can I try to apply without it? I have the Thai version.

What shall I do to have a new certified translation? I remember that we went to an office in Bangkok just after the wedding, but both I and my wife don't remember which one.

Around the embassy you will find many translation offics that can take care of the translation for around 300 to 400 baht in about half an hour.

Some people seem to apply with copy of Thai wedding certificate only, especially if you have a letter from your wife asking for a visa you will probably be OK. The wife's ID-card will also have her name in English, if she uses you last name that would be further proof.

Having a translation is not a problem, I can do it in Thailand as well, the problem is having it officially certified. I think the office which does it is the foreign ministry, and if I remember well it should take about a week, but I am not sure about it. I will try with copy plus original of Thai marriage certificate (we got married in Bangkok).

On the embassy website they write *Documents in foreign languages must be translated into Thai or English and should be notarized by notary organs or applicant’s diplomatic/consular mission.. So I guess original in Thai plus copy should be OK.

My wife kept her surname.

It would appreciate if somebody can give me some more info on how to have a new certified translation, I will do it an any case ASAP

Letter from bank saying over 100,000 Bt.

Copy of passbook last page only

My passport

They did not ask for anything else, and I know they could not read Thai

Dropped off at 9:45 and picked up next afternoon

I went last year, no translation and no problems at all.

The docs mentioned above are all that you should need.

I am going to KL on the 5th of October for a multiple O.

Can someone clarify some things for me, please.

The letter from the wife, to be written in Thai or English?

The bank passbook, the last page to be copied. Is this the signature page?

What needs to be copied from my passport, apart from my I.D. page?

And lastly, any recommendations on guesthouses to stay in, near the embassy.

Do not believe the letter has been a requirement but am sure either English or Thai would be accepted. It is signature/date they are interested in to prove current relationship. What is required would be copy of her id or passport and home register signed and dated. Believe copy of bank passbook from front to last used page would be fine. Passport data page and photos and application for visa. But expect others doing recently will help confirm as I have never done.

Just to report that I got my visa. They didn't ask for the translation and everything went smooth with the documents listed above.

If somebody is in KL right now or until October 2nd and don't know what to do, go to KL Tower for a base jump international event. Hundreds of people jumping with their parachutes from the tower. It's really spectacular to watch
