Problems With Thailand

I have been in Thailand now for over 7 months and come across the following things

Rant ON

(Some comments added by me)

1. Lack of English speaking abilities in all levels of society

Comment: And how well do you speak Thai?

2. Poor wages for expat workers employed in the education sector

True. Wages are low for everyone. Try being Thai and a worker here.

3. the most difficult work visa system I have ever had to put up with. Most places issue a work visa as one document after you arrive in country.

Ever tried to get a Saudi work visa?

4. Too many old fat white men think Thailand is great just don’t get it

Whatever, it is. They seem to be happy. Not your business,is it?

5. I seem to be the only guy working hear under 25yo most people who I see are over 40 I'm not talking about tourists.

  True

6. The drink is cheap its not wake up the price is the same as Australia. I don’t drink so it doesn’t matter to me

It is cheap comapred to U.S.A. at least bar/club drinking.

7. the worst public transport system outside of Bangkok no metro or aircond bus service in Pattaya or Kong Kean what the deal with that they are missing a lot of tourist because it too uncomfortable

I agree the transportation system, especially outside BKK, is crap.

8. Lack of English speaking customer service people on buses, trains, taxis, banks and shops

Yes, once again, they are Thai places not Farang places.

9. Ban the motorbikes from all main roads in Thailand and fine them 100000 baht if seen any near the main roads

I'd be happy. However, remember, many Thais cant afford a car, but can a motorcycle.

10. Tooooo much corruption at government levels

I certainly agree, but the again it isn't my native country

11. Shops don’t seem to stock any western size clothes I mean if you’re over 6 foot tall most of the shirts and basic clothes don’t fit.

How many six foot Thais come to buy in Thai shops?

12. Too much noise after 12am at night and most of that is from drunken people and loud music

    Agreed. Some are Tourists.

13. the most expensive apartment costs in south East Asia what’s the deal with 40000 plus for a 2 bed apartment in Nonthaburi even worse in Sathorn.

40K apartment in Nonthaburi. You were overcharged.

14. The rail network is shit trains could run at 160kph in Bangkok but crawl at 30kph until after Rangsit. Plus get rid of the non air cond trains.

    Agree.

15. More metro now and full track doubling and electrification of country lines to Japanese standards i.e. 250 kph min on the main line to issan

Do you pay Thai taxes? Would you be willing to contribute to improve rail service?

16. Kill the green and white buses in Bangkok buy some full size air con arc buses

Many thais use the mini-buses. Going to work every day on air-con buses is too expensive for many Thais.

17. Allow western people to get PR and set up businesses without having to prove 2million baht many good shops could be set up for less than 500000 baht and employ a few Thais

I agree whole-heartedly. Now just convince the government that it would benefit Thailand as a whole. (It would, in my opinion.)

18. When Thais hold an event provide materials in English and Thai so all can enjoy

When thais hold an event, why should they print matierials in English if they intend the matierial to be read by Thais?

19. Subtitle the TV please

It would be smart to make a English sub-title service for the Thai T.V. but who will pay for the service?

20. Do not translate English books magazines or movies into Thai

Many nglish language Mags are translated into Thai for Thai readers whose English isn't up to the task. They are intended for Thai readers.

That’s all for now I could think of many more

Rant off

:o

And you've been there a whole 7 months already!

Come back with your complaints when you've been there 7 years.

I added some comments after your rants.

I am not being sarcastic, just want you to know the place grows on you with time. There will be many frustrations here, but probably many things you will like about Thailand the longer you stay in Thailand.

And after all, isnt that what life is?

:D

I'd like to add to his list that it seems like half of the time the rice they serve you is in a basket, of all things, and it is all stuck together into one sticky ball. You have to pull pieces off and then sometimes they get stuck to your fingers......this is the orient for christ sake....can't they even cook rice right?
