Place To Take The Driving Licence Test

Featured Replies

Dear all,

I'm new on the forum and I could'nt find a clear answer to my question by looking to other topics.

I'm planning on applying for a motobike driving licence in BANGKOK. I don't have the Internationnal Driving licence and I'm aware that I will have to pass all the test.

My question is that, if I live in sukhumvit area (Wattana), can I go to the Sukhumvit office (soi 62) or do I have to go the Head office near Jatujak ?

Also if someone knows if there is a small doctor around the sukhumvit office for the medical certificate that I need ?

Thanks you in advance for your answer.

The drive license topic at the top of the page is big, there's is a ' Bikes in Thailand ' forum as well and seeing as you are in Bangkok made be your better off posting there.

Seeing as it's much the same procedure for car and bike licenses you should get a answer here though.

I had a UK license and got both car and bike licenses the same day but a lot has changed since then and there seemed to be different procedures for different DLT ( Department of Land & Transport ) province offices.

It's still easy done though nothing to worry about.

Good luck, K

Yes you can go to the office at the Sukhumvit, it,s actually on the opposite side to soi 62. There are facilities there to take both practical and theory tests. Am sure there is a medical place nearby, but I just went to my local hospital before taking the test and asked for medical certificate for driving licence, went to see the Doc , no problems.

Hi,

I'm already aware of the procedure, the document to have and all.

It is just about the place to go (Head office or sukhumvit office is OK). Since i'm taking a leave of absence to do it, I don't want to go to the wrong office.

Most of the info I found (for car and Bike licence) is for people who already have an internationnal licence and want to have the thai one.

I don't have the IDL, so I will need to do it like a normal Thai national (written test and practical test).

Thanks

Thank you Bangkokhatter fro your answer,

I will go then to the Sukhumvit office to do it.

Thanks again for the quick answer.

If you have your European motobike full license you don't need an international one to get a Thai bike license.

That is what I was told but I have only the european Car driving licence and nothing about the bike. Here I want only the bike one. So i have to do it from scratch

Yep !! no bike catagory on license, you have to take a test.

It's no big deal you'll do OK maybe only need help with the answers to the written paper.

Good luck, K

The pratical was just a lap around a circuit and I borrowed ( rented ) 1 of their manual bikes, probably should have failed as I bunny hopped a fair bit :)

I failed the theory first time, its a multi-choice test done on a computer, the English translation is not to bad it was more the Thai interpretation of the highway code :whistling: but you can just re-take it on the next sitting.
