Court found condoms as strong evidences implicating Chuwit

The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled to seize Bt3.4 million from Rak Prathet Thai MP Chuwit Kamolvisit in connection with his suspected involvement in the prostitution ring.

The high court verdict was based on the civil proceedings under the money laundering law and would not impact on Chuwit's political office.

Although the lower court and the subsequent appellate reivew ruled in Chuwit's favour by citing his acquittal in the criminal proceedings, the high court said under the money laundering law, the defence had the burden of proof but failed to verify how the assets in question were amassed.

The case came to light after the Paveena Hongsakul Foundation, a women advocacy group, fiiled a police complaint charging that massage parlours run by Chuwit were a front for sex trade.

The prosecution launched separate criminal and civil proceedings against Chuwit and his holding company, Ho Pacific Co which operated a number of massage parlours.

By the time the case reached the judicial review, Ho Pacific and its subsidiaries had Bt3.4 million left in various bank accounts.

Among key defence arguments were that massage parlours were a legitimate business, that massage services were not illicit sex trade and that the criminal trial had ended with the verdict of acquittal.

The high court ruled that there was cause to suspect the sex trade as the company's record showed it spent Bt112,559 to buy condoms in 2002 alone. A number of former workers testified how they were trained and coerced to provide sexual services.

Furthermore a large number of disposed condoms were uncovered at various parlours run by Chuwit.

Under the verdict, the cause to suspect ill-gotten gains had warranted the asset seizure order. The defence did not prove how the assets came into its possession.

No, it stems from the first Thaksin government.

Yes I know. However my theory is that although this case has been pending for awhile, he expected that by helping out the Thaksin mob with the police leadership shake-up, he expected some favorable ruling from the court .... you know ... like the courts recently ruling that "terrorists" are instead "criminal associates" or whatever ... and like the courts recently ruled that Ponjaman doesn't have to pay taxes .... and whatever other 180 degree turns the courts may be making in the coming weeks and months to brown nose the new powers that be. I think Chuwit expected this kind of favorable treatment.

So he was today disappointed or perhaps even POed by the court ruling on his case and so he blew the whistle on another casino ... and so I wonder who may be the big financial loser behind this new casino revelation. And I wonder if Chuwit is still pissed enough that he will reveal another one or two in the coming days. He probably knows about dozens of them along with a lot of other vice venues here in the Land of Smiles.

You were all lauding! You have your wires crossed. I have never lauded any of the judicary in Thailand as I consider it also under the influence of political favour if not by way of monetary advantage then by political pressure especially by those parties who are prepared to commit "terrorism", ops, how forgiving "criminal assocation".

If you need any further clarification of that go back to the original court ruling that started all this mess on the criminal fugitive/chief thief in 2001 where the ruling was not whether the criminal fugitive was guilty or not but under political pressure of violence if the court did not rule in favour of the mob's poor little Thaksin. That was the day that justice in Thailand came under question and the door was opened wider for any thief or mobster to do as they wish.

I find this sentence the most disturbing...

I would hope that any guilty verdict in such blatant criminal activities would automatically trigger a removal from office, regardless of civil or criminal.
