Fried Locusts cause health scare for man in Sattahip District

SATTAHIP: -- A warning now to those who eat food prepared by mobile street vendors. Often, hygiene standards are either poor or non-existent and most are never checked by local health officials. For this reason the chances of customers becoming unwell is high. Khun Itidaert aged 26 lives in Sattahip District and purchased a bag of fried locusts on Friday. Moments after consuming one of the locusts his face began to swell and a skin irritation covering the whole of his body began. He also felt dizzy and sick. A local clinic administered an injection which was ineffective so his mother decided to move to herbal remedies which seemed to help.

The speed with which the reaction occurred seems to suggest an allergic reaction rather than a food poisoning event, but who am I to know. If it is an allergy , it would happen no matter how 'clean/washed' the locusts were. In any event, boiling them in oil is a pretty effective disinfectant!
