PM Yingluck to visit Myanmar

BANGKOK 4 October, 2011 (NNT) - PM Yingluck Shinawatra is scheduled to visit Myanmar on Wednesday

PM Yingluck will then join a gala dinner hosted by the Myanmar leader

Death toll from flooding has now increased to 224 and has adversely affected 2.4 million people.

This not a new phenomenon - it was just as bad last year and despite the amount of money spent by the democrats on flood prevention we have the same results this year, that was what you were trying to point out wasn't it, Buchholz?

Pointing out that hundreds are dying, millions are affected, but you seem to think everything is under control so that the PM can fly off for her gala dinner.

Apparently, though, she feels she's doing ok

I'm not pointing out anyone else's actions, but I guess we see her actions differently.

.

By the way, from my post you chopped around, the pertinent date when 224 people had been confirmed dead and when 6 million rai was still under water was November 15th 2010.

And where was Abhisit just 3 days before these figures about the ongoing devastating flood situation was published? -

In China, attending the Opening Ceremony Welcoming banquet of the Guangzhu 2010 Asian Games.

The actions referred to in the related thread posted above yours highlights some of her actions that are viewed by people other than myself as less than optimal and could possibly show you some insight into her shortcomings.

I think you are being too harsh on her, after all she did find time in her busy schedule of negotating a full pardon for brother #1, appointing a relative as chief of police and conducting detailed planning of how to swell the family coffers with Cambodian/Thai oil & gas money to hand out some plastic boots...

Yes, boots for 5,000 are important for a flooding situation affecting 2,400,000.

So Abhisit left before the worst flooding occurred and Yingluck is leaving during its height.

Ok.

Any links for the news forum from this year?

"Any links for the news forum from this year?" You're having a laugh!

This from a poster who specialises in raking up the past for anything to do with the PTP, Red Shirts or Thaksin.

Just one recent example;

When asked about the education requirements for a Bangkok Election seat Buchholz drags up six (6!) articles from The Nation dated February 2005 all basically saying the same thing. (It goes without saying that the articles were detrimental to the PTP person involved).

Floods threaten Bangkok

Updated October 5, 2011 14:37:41

In Thailand the severe monsoon season has now killed more than 200 people in the worst flooding in decades.

Authorities in Thailand say flooding has affected 58 of the country's 77 provinces...and that Bangkok will be at risk of flooding for another month as excess water moves down the swollen Chao Phraya River.

Death toll up to 237 now, but still waiting to hear how the Burmese gala dinner went.

.

You seem to be over obsessed.

This Gov't has been in power for about 2 months, can any one reasonably expect them to solve a decades old problem in such a time???

Take a break, it will be easier for you.

The dinner probably went well, what is your objection to her visit ?

Perhaps it is you that should take a break.

No one is saying she is expected to solve the situation except you.

If you think there's nothing wrong with an overseas gala dinner while millions are inundated with flooding and hundreds are dying, then we differ in that regard.

Don't be absurd. The PM has already visited many flooded areas, and it is ridiculous to argue she should cancel this important but brief visit to Burma. She has Ministers and officials to do what they can in the face of this dreadful flooding situation.

There are over a 1000 road deaths in Thailand every month.Should she stay behind on this account as well in your opinion?

I understand that the PM is to meet Aung San Suu Kyi, something that Abhisit and Thaksin both avoided.

In the politest way possible and not wishing to embarrass you, do try and think before posting. It's not actually necessary to invent a critical comment every time.

Thai Floods Test Yingluck as Damage May Rise to $1.6 Billion

Oct. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Thailand’s worst floods in at least 50 years may slow economic growth and cause US$1.6 billion of damage, posing the first leadership test for Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra since she took office two months ago.

The deluge swept across the country from late July, killing 237 people, displacing 2.6 million others and damaging almost 10 percent of rice farms in the biggest exporter of the grain, data from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives show.

Economic losses from the floods and weakening overseas demand for Thailand’s electronics, textiles and agricultural goods may complicate Yingluck’s efforts to meet a pledge to raise the minimum wage. Flood damage may reach 50 billion baht

Can you support the "hundreds are dying" statement ???

Over what time period and where exactly ??

I just drove from Bangsaen to Chiangmai and the flood damage and human cost is pretty severe but people are dealing with it as best they can and coping, however badly.

I am curious why you constantly denigrate.................

It was not my quote that was deleted, however I take the moderators comments and will comply.

I am , however curious about your consistent antipathy towards the current Prime Minister and your frequent derogatory comments about her.

Why do you have such a negative opinion of her ??

She has been in place barely 2 months, not quite long enough to change the major problems this country faces, I would think.

It really doesn't happen at a stroke does it ??

Why not be a bit more generous in your estimation ??

Serious question.

It was your post that was deleted due to misuse of quotes... similarly as the one above I replied to after deleting all the misused quotes.

Why would anyone not have a negative opinion of her? Her own brother calls her a clone. Her own Party has the slogan, "Thaksin thinks, Pheu Thai acts" which completely bypasses her existence. She avoids the media questioning of her. Her Party's platform policies flip-flop in the wind and is seemingly hell-bent on bankrupting the country.

She's pure fluff who is only in the position because of shared DNA.

Why be a bit more generous given the pretext?

It was certainly the expectation according to reports I saw last week. However I see from Buchholz's comments and quoted report, and I have no reason to doubt him on this matter, it seems unlikely now.

It doesn't altogether surprise me however. The record of the Thai establishment on this matter is deplorable, across ideology and parties.

Why do you hate "fluff"?

It's only lint.

Her brother calls her a clone........so what?

Her policies are what you call "flip flop" but I suspect that 12 months from now the overall position of the country will be better than it could have been if the alternatives had been elected.

What say you ?

2. I don't "hate" fluff. I disdain it.

3. Ok, she's like lint.

4. It's derogatory and insulting. His explanations of it's use didn't really do much to change that.

5. Actually, it's mostly not "her" policies, but her brother's policies and by extension, her Party's AKA "Thaksin thinks, Pheu Thai acts". The rest is futuristic speculation that I usually don't delve into, however, the alternatives did offer less National Treasury-busting policies and on that basis would disagree, but as said, I leave that mostly to those that possess Magic 8-Balls to guess on the future.

So far, Yingluck has not yet said a single word to support Aung San Suu Kyi and political reform in Burma.
