Visa Questions.

Featured Replies

Hi i have a phew questions ,if i have a 6 month tourist visa and the date on my ticket states my return within the 6 months will it be a problem either in the uk airport where im travelling from or in Bangkok airport if my ticket is a one year open ticket? Also i rang the hull consulate and stated about a 6 month tourist visa lasting 9 months with your 30 day imigration exstentions, the lady turned round and said this is not correct and you will only get 6 months ? all quite confusing really ,any help would be great ,Thanks.

To get 9 months you'd need to have a triple entry tourist visa.

The visa will, probably, be good for 6 months, so all three entries must be made prior to the visa expiring. (Some places only give you three months.)

An extension on the third entry can be made after the visa expires, but before your 'permitted to stay until' date.

There should not be any problem for travel and none for entry. Travel with a visa does not require any onward ticket.

A tourist visa allows 60 day entry that can be extended 30 days upon payment. A two entry would allow doing this twice and if issued in UK will likely have a validity of six months from date of issue to make both arrivals. A three entry visa would have the same six month validity but allow up to almost nine months stay if third entry was made just before the six month visa validity expired as you could stay the normal 60 days and again extend 30 days.

yes i said to the lady at the consulate about the triple entry visa but she insisted ill only get 6 months?,u say some places only give u a 3 month tourist visa?

can i change my visa status while in thailand, say if i marry ?

The visa is only valid for six months - that means all entries must be made before that date - you can still stay on the 60 day permitted to stay stamp and extension so almost nine months would be total stay if you enter just before it expires for your 3rd entry.

You can not change visa status inside Thailand unless you qualify for extension of stay for marriage or work or something. Marriage itself would not qualify. But you could easily exit to nearby country to obtain a non immigrant visa for a new entry.

my main worry is imigration looking at my open 1 year ticket and saying your visa does not last this long, because i have certain dates i want to be back on, and maybe if i can change my visa status when in thailand?

Immigration is not concerned with your ticket(s) when you use visa entry - and even for visa exempt entry it would almost never be an issue unless from a third world country with no evidence of funds.

Why not, you marry you get to stay forever, you found the lucky lady yet?

Immigration at the destination will not care, it's the airline flying you out here that will and as you have a valid visa there will be no issue.

Actually you do not get any residence by marriage - he would qualify for non immigrate 90 day visas and 60 day extensions of stay but beyond that would require financials.
