djk
Just a heads up, parked my bike just outside of where they charge, 2 hours later my front tire is slashed. T£@*ts saw me going in, took their revenge it appears... Moral of the story, pay the cu&tS! sad, but true...TIT

IanForbes
From what I understand, a policeman owns Spicey. I've always parked a couple blocks away on the other side of the moat... and walk from there if I want to go to Spicey. But, I don't really like the joint even after they got rid of smoking. scd
My missus always likes to park down the street and around the corner. Now I think I know why. Interesting what you sat about the ownership Ian, as the place has copped many an early shut down as of late.

MangoAndCo
wow...really...? It is not always not wanting to pay the parking fee, but sometimes you just need to get something in a second and going in & out the paid parking zone takes too much time. A bit shocked about this mafia way.
KRS1
If its like 20 baht i'd happily pay it to avoid someone fondling my bike.
CobraSnakeNecktie
Spicy is just a dodgy place. I had a helmet disappear while parked there. I chalked it up to maybe if fell off my bike and am glad it was a cheap model. Learned my lesson. Best to park away from there. Another time I might have been drugged in a drink by a girl but can't say for sure. I recovered after about an hour on the floor of the bathroom. If I had my wits about me I should found the girl and lit her up. I just don't know for sure she did it. Best to just keep away from the place or at least go with people who will watch your back. alfieconn
So, how much DO they charge to park there? Ups, they tried to charge me 50baht to park in the moat road outside Mandalay when i was going to another bar no doubt something similar would have happened if i left the car there without paying Edited October 9, 2011 by alfieconn
justben
Easily avoidable, if you were only there for a couple of mins you could have said to the guy collecting money that you'll only be a couple of minutes. Invariably you would get a ได้ๆ ครับ and your tire would be fine.

Absolutely nothing would happen here if it wasn't for Spicy's. We'd just be debating milk, cheese and pie. realthaideal
Too bad about that tire ! I had a t-shirt won at a Tusker's raffle - the only thing i can ever remember winning any time recently - stolen off my bike when parked over by Woody's n the 7-11. The bike was suspiciously moved with a tuktuk parked in place of where I'd been. I have my ideas.... So with the new Spice location, I'm wondering if departing drunken stragglers are still finding the moat within easy walking distance to feed the fish or even go for an accidental swim ? Actually, The Van should take care of that, I suppose. But now Winnie's also got me thinking what are my favorite dodgy places in CM that give an element of surprise or danger when I go there ? Hmmmm......some after hours back-alley bars come to mind.... but what else... ? And then can we post them on TV then ??

Total BS, but not surprising. Yet one more of many reasons to stay away from Spicy.

nikster
Just to be clear, are we talking about paying for street parking? I've seen this in San Francisco so this isn't all Thai... there's always several bums who "own" public parking spots and helpfully direct you to park there. Don't tip them at your own risk! Probably worth the $1 to not have your car keyed...
uptheos
Pay the money, cos when you're staggeringly pissed at 3am, with a bargain basement hooker holding you up, you don't want to try and remember where your vehicle is.
WinnieTheKhwai
Never paid a baht for parking, old or new. Not boastin, just tellin. Me neither. But then when I show up I'm usually driving the Benz, which doesn't fit out front in their hospitality / welcoming area anyway. Never checked if they offer a valet service, that would definitely be worth it. Way back, when all we had for grubby entertainment was Bubbles at the Porn Ping you at least had the benefit of the place being run by people understanding the hospitality business, meaning you could actually just park right in front, give one of the attendants the keys and he'd park for you.
