Banking In Thailand

Featured Replies

I bank with Bangkok Bank and have done so for many years and have had nothing but excellent service from them. However, they in common with all other Thai banks as I understand it, are unable to transfer a bank account to another Bank - in this case a Bangkok Bank - outside of the Province in which they are located. I have recently re-located to another part of Thailand and am required to open a new account in my new location. This requires me to take a bankers draft go through the opening procedure yet again. My question is WHY? If the banks are National then why can they not effect inter-bank transfers? I have not come across this before and most certainly is not the case in the UK. It does appear to be somewhat archaic. Is it the banks or is it some piece of Government legislation?
