Please could someone offer any advice with regard to transferring from the airport to Victory Monument, in order to pick up a mini-bus.

Arriving at Suvarnabhumi around mid-day, we are two adults, each with one hand-luggage and sharing one standard suitcase.

I'd like to find out costs for airport taxi or other methods (shuttle to Transit Centre and then bus to the Monument, etc).

Also, How long would each method take?

Would there be any time/cost advantages to maybe getting transported, by taxi or bus, from the airport to the nearest BTS or MRT (and then connecting to the BTS)?

A few options seem to exist and there may well be more than I've listed - maybe even by narrowboat, at this rate.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, what would it cost and how long would the typical journey take, to get an airport cab to Sai Tai (Southern Bus Station)?

Thanks again.

I would suggest the Airport Link train from the airport(basement section) which connects you to Phaya Thai BTS. From there it is just one stop on the BTS to Victory Monument. The Airport Link is extremely efficient and runs about every 15 minutes and takes just 30 minutes from the airport to Phaya Thai BTS. The cost for the City Line which stops at each of the stations(but only takes 30 minutes in total) is 45 Baht pp. There is an Express Line which I think operates every half hour or so and takes just 15-20 minutes at a cost of 150 Baht I believe. But the normal City Line is very quick in any case. The BTS would cost I think only 10-15 Baht pp. So it could be possible to be at Victory Monument within 40-45 minutes at a cost of about 60 Baht each.

Taxi would be more expensive and I am not sure how the traffic will be. More than likely very heavy with the flood situation.

Problem solved.

Probably couldn't have wished for better advice as speed/cost is the essence (done the scenic routes, many times and as you suggest, such are likely to be longer and more stressful, albeit more scenic, if the current floods don't subside soon).

Thank you so much.:jap:

I always take a taxi unless extreme situations occur. Going up and down the skylink is horrible w luggage. There's a reason nobody can tell u exactly how much it costs. Bc nobody uses it. I actually think the express is down to 90 b bc it's lacking use. I live very close to the station and would never use it. Taxis in Bkk r dirt cheap. They will drop u exactly where u need to go (for the most part). So for maybe 100 baht more u don't have to take the crap skylink.

If it is flooding when u arrive by all means use the skylink. But currently from airport to victory it is clear.

And yes. When u exit the skylink, u will have to carry ur luggage down 4 stories, across a rail then up to the bts and back down, passing all the gates w luggage.

I'm with you on that. This airport link is very impractical with luggages, and seeing how light is the traffic in Bangkok now, you'd be in Victory monument in a shorter time and for proabably about the same cost IF you use a little "trick": get the taxi from the departure hall (just go upstairs) after it has dropped someone. You won't have to pay surcharge and you'll easily find a driver ready to use the meter (which will always be much cheaper as what they will try to offer you).

Total fare should be less than 300THB.

OMG. Are you guys right?

The BTS/Airport Link have no escalator/elevator connections for people with luggage?

It's supposed to be an AIRPORT link, fer cryin' out loud!

Airplane passengers are invariably carrying.....errrr.......LUGGAGE.

Even if they weren't people (not just travelers) have kids and goods to carry.

Unbe-ruddy-lievable.:crying:

Please, someone, tell me it ain't so. It can't be so. No-one could be so stu......(oh, forgot the first rule.........TiT).

I wonder if you or someone could confirm something for me.

I just found a map on another site which suggests that the Express option stops two stops short of Phraya BTS whereas the regular service goes all the way to Phraya. I'v included the pic (which may well be old and out of date) below:

Not sure about where the Express line terminates but as I said before the City Line runs more often and with the 6 or 7 stops it still only takes 30min to reach Phaya Thai. Which does have a lift if you have lots of luggage as does the airport !! I am not sure if there in an escalator or lift at the Phaya Thai BTS but if you have only hand luggage and one standard suitcase it won't be too much of an effort. I did the run with the City Line a few days ago with my daughter and had 3 large bags. Not a big problem.

Brilliant, thank you.

This still looks to be the quickest and cheapest option.

Taxi-Meter is probably the easiest (being door to door) but I'm not fond of the claustrophobia of a Bangkok traffic jam. I also like seeing people and other sites without having to peer through a glass screen that also muffles the smells and the noises that go to make up that which is Bangkok (or anywhere else, for that matter).

Appreciate your replies.
