Can Get Herpes Meds Otc In U.S.A.?

Featured Replies

Going back to USA. Are herpes medications (eg Valerm (name for one type here in Thailand)) available OTC in America or will I need a Dr.'s diagnosis and then prescription (which will be extremely expensive).

Or....

Should I bring as many as I can (legal?) with me from Thailand? Which I know will run out at some point and will then have to see US Dr., but hoping to bring a few hundred pills with me if need be.

Any advice appreciated.

These meds are prescription only in the US

So I would get in serious trouble if I tried to bring some in? What if I got a Dr.'s note prescribing them to me (but they are OTC here)? Is no any way to get them into the US legally?

Not saying you'd get in trouble bringing it in, just that you cannot buy it OTC there.

They are not controlled substances, just prescription drugs. Same category as say antibiotics.

I actually don't know what the situation is regarding bringing in non-controlled substances that are prescription only in the US from countries where they are OTC. I do it myself all the time and have never had a problem, and I doubt anyone would have a problem as long as the quantities are modest. What I do to be safe is have everything in a labelled pharmacy bag or bottle showing my name and dosage etc.

jIt may also be wise to buy brands that come in a blister pack so that there is no doubt as to what they are. Your biggest issue with customs would be if they suspected these were something else.

Since it's OTC, i don't have anything with a label on it and my name, but I think it being in the blister packs will do the trick. I just hope to breeze through customs...that solves everything!

Thanks for ur help!

Most US cities will have some type of low cost STD clinic available where you can confirm the diagnosis and get a proper script.
