Quitting Job & Work Permit + New Visa

Featured Replies

Greetings...I came to Thailand on a 1 year non imm 'o' . After the 15 months were up i found a job teaching english & switched to a non imm 'B' in Laos. On returning to Thailand ,my agency/school organised my work permit. I'm thinking of qutting my job to travel around Thailand ( i have family coming for a long holiday in december).

My question is : If i quit my job obviously the work permit will expire-so how much time do i get before i must leave the country to get a new visa. 1 day / 1 week? Also will i be eligible to apply for a double entry tourist visa, since i've clearly been using non imm visas previously. ( i dont have any previous tourist visas in my passport )???

Thanks in advance for any answers / opinions

DB.

You must go to immirgation as well to cancel your eprmisison tos tay and leave the country the same day. You could get 7 days to leave the country for 1,900 baht.Yes, a double entry toruist visa would probably be possible in your case. But depends on where you apply.

I just received a minor serve from the Immigration official at the airport when entering Thailand.

In May I completed one contract and return my work permit to my employer. I left the Country the same day to work overseas. I did not cancel my non-immigrant visa (extension of stay?) at the same time, I simply left.

My extension of stay is still valid until 31st Nov. However, I have since departed returned to Thailand on a separate visa (Tourist) 3 times and this was not picked up until my most recent entry. The immigration official informed me that I'll need to go to Immigration to 'void' (cancel) the extension of stay.

I don't understand how this is not automatically done when leaving the country.

That said, I've been unable to visit immigration and will simply depart again for work in a week or so. My next return to Thailand will be after the expiry of the *Non-Imm extension of stay.

*I think the Non-Imm permit is the same as an extension of stay. The issue here is that the immigration departments etc are so very very weak at providing information for what in many cases are very illogical regulations.

"I think the Non-Imm permit is the same as an extension of stay."

Is that what you're calling a visa obtained from a consulate?

If so, it's not the same thing.

OP, I think if you have an original visa you are using, it is probably good.

My understanding is that you only need to leave the country the same day if you are on an extension from an immigration office.

RS, I, like you, thought leaving without a multiple entry visa or a re-entry permit would cancel the extension of stay.

Otherwise, why get a re-entry permit?

Yes its an extension of stay acting as a continuation of my single entry non B,which was issued / valid for 3 months on the strength i'd get the work permit in place-i report to immigration every 90 day & recieve a new paper slip in my passport for another 90 days. stamp in passport is valid 'til 31st march 2012.

Thanks to all for your replies.
