Posthumous Amy Winehouse album to be released in December

LONDON (BNO NEWS) -- Record label Island Records will release a third album by singer Amy Winehouse in December, more than four months after she died of accidental alcohol poisoning at her London apartment.

Island Records said the new album, titled "Lioness: Hidden Treasures", will be released on December 5. It contains twelve recordings which Winehouse worked on over the years but never released.

"It was said by all who worked with Amy that she never sang or played a song the same way twice," Winehouse's record label said in a statement. "It quickly became apparent to Salaam [Remi] and Mark [Ronson] that they had a collection of songs that deserved to be heard, a collection of songs that were a fitting testament to Amy the artist and, as importantly, Amy their friend."

The track collection features recordings from as far back as May 2002 and as recent as March of this year. Some are brand new while others are unreleased tracks and alternate versions of songs such as 'Valerie'.

Winehouse first released studio album "Frank" in October 2003 and was certified triple platinum by the British Phonographic Industry in late 2008. Her second album, "Back to Black", was released in October 2006 and became the UK's bestselling album of the 21st Century after her death.

The 27-year-old singer was found deceased in her bed on July 23. A London coroner revealed last Wednesday that Winehouse had drank so much alcohol she was more than five times over the legal drink-drive limit, which is 80mg per 100ml of blood. Two large bottles of Vodka and one small bottle were found near her body at her flat in north London.

"She had consumed sufficient alcohol at 416mg per deciliter (of blood) and the unintended consequence of such potentially fatal levels was her sudden and unexpected death," St Pancras coroner Suzanne Greenway said during an inquest last week.

However, despite the 'Rehab' singer having a long history of substance abuse, no illegal substances were found in her body. The court heard Winehouse had not consumed alcohol for about three weeks until she started drinking on July 22, a day before she died.

Winehouse's final show was in Belgrade in June where she was booed by fans after a disastrous performance, eventually prompting her to cancel all scheduled performances. The Grammy-winning singer also appeared briefly on stage with her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield at the iTunes festival days before her death.
