More Evacuations Loom In Flood Hit Bangkok

Featured Replies

Maybe the floods can be controlled at this point. Now we'll see hoe they handle and coordinate the massive cleanup of contamination and bacteria. let's see if they recognize the massive health distater that needs attention and how they marshall resources to deal with population dislocation. The water is one thing. The people are another.

I believe the last quote from the Science Minister was something along the lines of "There is no problem because there are no rats - look around, you won't see any. Only after the water goes away will the rats come back and spread disease" This guy in particular has just been a fountain of unbelievable quotes. He's reaching Idi Amin levels of unintentional hilarity.

I'm a huge fan of the science minister too. Particularly this little panic stricken effort below.

"Science minister Plodprasop Suraswadi rushed out of a flood briefing late on Thursday to say that several areas in Bangkok's northern suburbs were at risk of being submerged by up to one meter of water after a dyke burst. But the authorities quickly backtracked, causing confusion among residents who have been braced for floodwaters to reach the capital" http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-world/thai-pm-moves-to-ease-bangkok-flood-panic-20111014-1lnj6.html

They have closed 3 klongs to slow down the mess in the city. On the TV this morning, the people are getting more and more pissed off up there as the water continues to rise. If anyone from the government saw that on TV, expect the gates to be opened to help the people up there, with the requisite increase in water flow into Bangkok.

It isn't anywhere near "under" control.

Yes saw a group of women trying to beat the crap out oof a guy.

Soon the government could be facing completely different problems. In the way of public disorder?
