Democrats back Sukhumbhand

The main opposition party has no plans to force Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra to resign over his management of the flooding, Democrat MP Rachada Dhnadirek said yesterday.

"News reports about Sukhumband stepping down are groundless," she said.

Rachada said there was no justification to pin the blame for Bangkok's inundation on Sukhumbhand.

The governor's term will end early next year and this might have prompted ill-intentioned people trying to undermine his re-election bid, she added.

Rachada said she had checked with Sukhumbhand and Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung about the alleged move to sack the Bangkok governor.

The two had cordial ties and Chalerm denied he had pushed the government to fire Sukhumbhand, she said.

Certain Pheu Thai MPs had circulated the idea about a possible sacking, she said.

Another Democrat, Boonyord Sukthinthai, said no Democrats, particularly those who are Bangkok MPs, had cast doubts on Sukhumbhand's flood-control efforts.

Boonyord said he suspected Pheu Thai MPs had fabricated the story on Sukhumbhand in order to divert attention from the government's botched flood control operations.

How does Chalerm think the Govt has the right to sack an elected official?

There are particular laws that created and define the BMA, including the election of the governor. The laws would probably have some allowance to sack the governor under certain circumstances.

I think he'd have a tough time justifying it in this case.

The only time time Chalerm opens his mouth during the flood crisis to make a comment on someone who is out there doing his job, while he is doing , ...ummm, all manner of things I guess . what he;s good at... umm ?

He was up north supervising the investigation into the murder of 13 Chinese sailors. This is what he's good at - paying off the witnesses.

Govt commends Abhisit for relief efforts

Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit Friday praised Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva for cooperating in the drainage and relief efforts.

"Abhisit has called to alert the government for flood-related problems he encountered on his inspection trips," he said, commending Abhisit for acting as a good citizen rather than the opposition leader.

Is Yongyuth on the way out?

How does Chalerm think the Govt has the right to sack an elected official?

reading the article, I don't see where Chalerm makes a claim like that. In addition, the only mention of him and what he says comes 3rd hand from the Dem MP Rachada.

This article looks like rumor and gossip.

You missed this article then

Furthermore, Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung commented that the Interior Ministry can exercise its authority to discharge the Bangkok Governor owing to his inefficiency.

Correct. I had not seen that article. Interestingly enough, doesn't change what I said. This article still looks like rumor and gossip.

As for the other that you gave me the link to (thank you), it is from TAN with their normal "paraphrase out of context" approach. Having seen their ability to twist words 180 degrees from the original intent, I give their articles very little credibility.

This is not to say that there is no political infighting going on. Only to say that TAN has been known to "lie" in their "news" articles. Sondi has no interest in the truth.

Maybe you'd prefer to read "Voice of Taksin" or watch "Voice TV" or listen to the various red shirt radio stations for "honest and balanced" news reporting.

Why do you think that I'm learning Thai? I can't wait to tune in and get some really "fair and balanced" news.

(where is that tongue-in-cheek emoticon??)
