I plan on going over to Koh Lanta in January, and am planning on flying from Samui. I was just unsure however if I should get a flight from Samui to Krabi or Phuket in order to get to Koh Lanta the fastest, and also the best way from the airport to Lanta. If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful, thanks.

I plan on going over to Koh Lanta in January, and am planning on flying from Samui. I was just unsure however if I should get a flight from Samui to Krabi or Phuket : CURRENTLY BKK-air is THE only carrier, and they ONLY do SAM-HKT now. its bus only to Krabi. from Surat that is.

in order to get to Koh Lanta the fastest,= NOT by boat, but an overland bus from Krabi, via the carferry, the AIRport turn off at Krabi is about 1-1,5 kms from that main rd, but as above: wont be of much use.

The best way from the PHU-airport to Lanta: add a bus Phket-Krabi, again NO real need to get into PHU to do that same road (25 kms) back alter, catch the bus at the turn-of, which sadly is too far from airprt to go walking: thus thats another very expensive rip-off PHU-taxi.

IF a holiday into an island means it must be boat for you: service still severely restricted due to post-tsunami, means PHU-PHIPHi in the MORning, a lonmger stay there [a few hrs), then aft. boat Phi-Lanta.

If anyone has any ideas: as above.!

Additional to above:[

he best way from the PHU-airport to Lanta: add a bus Phket-Krabi, again NO real need to get into PHU to do that same road (25 kms) back alter, catch the bus at the turn-of, which sadly is too far from airprt to go walking: thus thats another very expensive rip-off PHU-taxi. This trip takes some 3-4 hrs and thus forfeits ANY time gained by flying compared to direct bus Surat-Krabi.

If anyone has any ideas: as above: YES, another one I did not realise:

as these are onl re the normal publ transport:

When in Samui and making a very short walk around, then you cannot help but notice the many travel-agents advertsiing any possible onward transport needed, mainly by minibus from Surat tpo connect after the ferry, incl. to Krabi/and prob. lanta too (another change may be needed), all in cramped minibuses full of farang, but quick and easy to use, and still quite cheap. Simply book these a day or before via any of them, locally.

Thanks for the advise Asanee. I am planning to fly to Phuket and hopefully the guest house in Lanta will be able to pick us up from the airport (4500 baht) if not we will stay one night in Phuket and go to Lanta the next day.

Someone did just suggest hiring a car and driving to Lanta - so I may look into that.

Thanks again :o

I hired a car phuket 700 baht per day for 8 days, picked up airport. Drove to krabi 2.5 - 3 hours, nice drive and stayed a few days then drove down to Lanta visiting a few sites on the way. Nice trip and roads pretty empty all the way.
