Registered Sex Offenders From Us Working In Thai Schools

Featured Replies

Hello,

Can Child Sex Offenders registered in the United States legally get visas to work as teachers in Thailand?

If it's illegal, what laws does it break? And which authorities should be looking to stop this?

Hoping someone can someone answer my question.

Officially it would be necesarry to undergo a police check in both Thailand and in the home country. However, that is not always asked for so people slip through the mazes and there is also the possibility of illegal employement as a teacher.

If you suspect a sex-offender will travel abroad or is in Thailand there are several steps one can take:

- contact the autorities in the home country. Some countries have laws against convicted sex-offenders traveling abroad.

- contact the Thai government. As withany country, the immirgaiton law allows the refusal or even deportation of certain categories of persons if that is in the public interest. Sex-offenders can be denied entry and if already here be deported, it is not necesarry that they already have commited an offence in Thailand.

Thai immigration investigative division, one can make a report here: http://inv.immigration.go.th/report.php and the Thai Police special branch

- contact an organization like ECPAT (they fight against child prostitution, pornography, etc). They have the knowledge and contacts to act in a case like this.

The international HQ of ECPAT is in Bangkok: http://www.ecpat.net/EI/index.asp They also have an US office: http://ecpatusa.org/

I would recommend contact ECPAT, as they can give expert advise and tell you who to contact. The Thai government is not good in answering emails.

Naming and shaming is not allowed on our forum, for this reason I close this topic. Other people with relevant information can send an email to the OP.
