with the chancellor today announcing , those people under 52

will not recieve a goverment pension until they are 67 years old .

glad i am not twenty years younger ,

poor youngsters .

ellis how old are you?

What is a youngster in your book?

the UK government will keep changing the age for pension assistance but in reality it doesn't count for much does it?

Social security tops most of my older pals weekly income up from what i have been told by them.

Nobody should rely on getting to pension age and being subsidized by a UK government, better to do it yourself.

I am and would be very happy to be 20 years younger! biggrin.gif

Maybe I should start an e-petition to stop pensions being paid to people living overseas...............I bet I could get a 100, 000 signatures no problem whistling.gif

Sobering times for many! Anybody in the public sector is likely to be looking at two years of pay freeze followed by two with pay increases capped at 1%, perhaps adding up to a real terms pay cut of about 12% over the four years. And that is if the Euro does not implode, which would make things worse. Additionally these workers will be paying extra pension contributions, and if they live in the UK regions may have their pay adjusted downwards to take account of local conditions. Then, even, allowing for Mr Gove's 'too good to turn down' offer on pensions, CPI indexation will reduce average life-time pension income by about 15%. I guess some with less than 10 years to go might think a move to LOS would be very appealing, not least because it will carry less opportunity cost than before. But even those who get out are going to take the pension hit with the change from RPI to CPI.

Times are much more difficult now for young people than they were in my day.

I left school at age 14, never had any further education, no qualifications, yet, had no problems finding work. I became an apprentice and was able to work my way up the ladder and provide myself with some good pensions.

It`s a much more competitive world these days and believe there is a whole lot more pressure on young people and it`s going to be tough on them in they’re old age.

If I had not fully supported my kids, education and so on, there would not have been much hope for them. This is why I believe kids need 2 parents.

As the wise man says; we have had the best of it, there are gloomy days ahead and although I don`t want to wish my life away, I would hate to be in my early 20s just starting out.

Make sure you can scuttle back to the UK if you get very sick in your old age. I am not joking; Thai health care is not only suspect, but it will cost you an arm and a leg. Typically senario: if you can't pay they won't operate, and I mean pay in advance. If you can't pay then they will nurse you until you die.

Apart from the lousy weather I think the UK is brilliant. Only all those foreigners coming into the country putting a burden on the system.

if you think the UK is brilliant I guess you have not been to too many places, if sick in the UK try and get an appointment with a specialist find out what a waiting list is, same if surgery is needed

The UK is one of the most policed countries in the so called free world one of the heaviest taxed, has the worst food wailing mosques on every street corner in short the place sucks that is why there are so many Brits over here

The UK has the worst food? Nah I can get a better curry there than in India!

Agree with the rest though...that's why I've left. smile.gif

Can we have your passport back please? Or at the very least a solemn promise that you will never try to use any part of our NHS and welfare state again in your life?

And that's what the home grown UK Bashers, don't want to talk about,as soon as they, run out of money, need high cost Medical Care, their Pension is no longer enough, the Wife/GF screwed them over, whatever ?

Then it's scuttling back home time, like Ship Rats, and telling the stories how bad it is in Thailand, and it's great to have People around, who can be trusted.

No! they won't be giving their British Passports back,or giving up their British Citizenship, they know much better than to spout that hypocracy.

Use our Health Service again? they keep an address in the UK,just so they can flit back home for that free Hip Replacement,or Hernia treatment,on the NHS and they don't mind the waiting lists, when it's free, and all of this in the same Country they despise so much.

Why shouldn't you use services you have already paid for?

During your working life you contribute to the country and it's services, when you finish working and retire you take back.

Why should where you choose to live after retiring affect your right to 'take back'

Just to point out the NHS is not free, you contribute taxes and NI payments when you are young.

No problem, where can I sign up for some of that.

Please tell the taxman or whatever to send payment to my HSBC account, this will include not only tax payments but NI payments made over the years, plus interest.

Like you I also paid my Taxes and NI Contributions for a lifetime of working, but the Health care is available for everyone in the UK whether they paid into the system or not!

I agree with you, where you choose to live later on in life should not deny your rights to"take back" my point was: its free at source, and constantly denigrating ones Country as some do is uncalled for,to put it mildly. especially as they would be the first to go back home and claim their rights!

But you have to agree the UK is slightly oppressive at the moment.

Car parking charges and fines, speed cameras, council tax, etc.

Yes I would agree with you,but that's the fault of successive Governments, and the need to raise revenue from somewhere! to pay for Services and Benefits, that many Countries can only dream of.

I had a suspected cancer two years ago. I was seen, tested, diagnosed (fortunately negative) and seen again by a consultant in 11 days. I think you'll find that the Scandinavian countries are much more heavily taxed than the UK. As for the 'wailing mosques' - I live in a Midlands town with quite a high proportion of Asians. We have one mosque (which I've never heard wailing - can buildings wail?), one Gurdwara and more churches than you can shake a stick at. It seems that absence makes the memory slightly dodgy.

Of course what the whingers will never admit,is that if your case is urgent (as in life threatening) the waiting lists will be readjusted to suit the patients need to be seen quickly.

More long term memory loss, for some i'm afraid, and with a population of 59,000,000 NHS patients to see to,then no wonder there are waiting lists.

So, let me get this straight.... there's a waiting list (got that bit) but if you're in real need, as in you'll die if they don't hurry up, then you get treated quickly.

How is that a bad thing?

How would it be possible to provide a health service where no-one has to wait for treatment? Oh yes, a private health system in a country that has a public health system. So that if you have enough money you can get treatment whenever you like.

Fair enough, everyone else, me included, can wait a while.

I get it that you don't like the UK, I'm aware of it's drawbacks myself. But to say that it's a bad place because it's health system has waiting lists is a bit silly really isn't it?

Especially since your wait will be reduced if you're in dire need of treatment, surely that's a good thing?

Agreed!

But probably will not stop the UK Whingers and Whiners though. I suspect they were exactly the same in the UK,before they came to Thailand, but now know its futile to complain about Thailand......they know they will get nothing, except what they buy, with their own money (aquired in the UK)

"I get it that you don't like the UK" im sure your quote wasn't directed at me?

like many I dislike the UK but when I left 2 1/2 years ago I sold my property and filled out all the necessary forms regarding a UK citizen leaving the UK, the tax man has my address as Thailand, I do have an address in the UK but it is a friends address purley for mail regarding a small Tesco pension and another address for receiving mail from my bank account, I did not come here with the intention of running back to the UK if I get ill, unfortunately for me I am not wealthy and at some point in the future if I get very ill and can make it back to the UK I hope I will be treated by the NHS which I have always thought as being fantastic, I will only go back as a last resort as I am not a sponger, the UK is my home country and I would like to think even though I chose to move abroad they will still look after me in an emergency.. so far the health care here has been good and not expensive but I have only had minor things so far, hoping to keep healthy for a very long time so I will not need to go back to the UK...

I am now 55, I have savings and a pension from the UK that is enough to live on, as I said I will not go back to the UK unless there is no other alternative, I worked all my life from the age of 15 yrs old was never out of work, paid my taxes so I do think I am still owed help at some point should I need it..
