I use a US based freight forwarding service and they are now offering TNT as an alternative to DHL or Fed-Ex

I know all about paying duty with Fed-Ex and DHL and do not have a problem with this.

Does TNT act as a customs broker like the other 2 carriers, any experiences, and or issues?

I am tempted to give them a go as the rate is a fair bit less with comparable transit times
