NATURAL RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENT MINISTRY WILL CRACK DOWN ON DEFORESTATION STARTING DEC. 15

Natural Resources and Environment Minister YONGYUT TIYAPAIRAT (ยงยุทธ ติยะไพรัช) is now on a move to stringently stop deforestation nationwide, after the flooding in PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN (ประจวบคีรีขันธ์ ) Province.

Minister YONGYUT has announced that it is time for the government to reconsider its city planning, its measures to prevent deforestation, and its provision of warning systems for the public. Forest officials have been assigned to check on the logs that have flown along the floodwater to determine their origin. Mr. YONGYUT said starting from December 15th, the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry will crack down on deforestation throughout the country.

Meanwhile in PHATTHALUNG (พัทลุง) Province, heavy downpour over the last three days has caused flooding in some areas. Locals have had to dig a moat and erect a soil barrier around a chemical truck that had been flooded, in order to prevent the chemical from entering the waterways.

is this a record thre crackdown topics at the top of the news clippings thread.

but seriously as with most of the crackdowns it is either to late as in this case or they do not implement them correctly.

a forest can be managed, [ no matter what size ] and this has been going on for decades all over the world apart from the most corrupt countries.

look at what has happened to south america.

when the forestation has been destroyed you can never rerplace it in a lifetime of work.

to late

A good friend in the village has worked for the Thai Forestry Dept. for years. When he was stationed up in Chiang Rai he noted that it was the people from Boon Rawd Brewery who provided the free drinks and alcohol in exchange for forest lands.

Some of us remember when General Chaowalit decided to forgo Thai sovereignty and allowed foreign troops to enter Thai territory and engage in warfare against a defenseless minority group in exchange for certain logging rights.

So yes indeed, the Royal Thai Forestry Department has long been one of the most corrupt government institutions for generations.

Chaiyo!
