December 10, 201114 yr When it looked as though the flooding might be heading in our direction my wife wanted us to protect our house with sandbags. As it turned out, we were lucky enough to be unaffected by the flooding. However I now have about 50 largish sandbags sitting in our front yard and I need to get rid of them. I suspect I'm not the only forum member with this problem... We don't have a vehicle, and the sandbags are very heavy. Any ideas?
December 10, 201114 yr Just cut them open and throw the sand in the nearest drain, that will ensure another exciting raining season next year.
December 10, 201114 yr Keep them as the way thing are going you may need them next year. Unless he plans on investing in a number of pumps, i'd say get rid of them as they are a complete waste of time, certainly in terms of protecting one's property. All it means is your property takes a few hours longer to flood than everyone else's. We had not only sandbags but also bricked up entrances. Complete waste of money that only serves to trap the water in when the flood recedes - yeah, funny that isn't it - doesn't stop the water getting in but stops it getting out!
December 10, 201114 yr Exposed to sunlight the bags will disintegrate in a few months, which I think, could be worse, small piles of sand and whatever else was used to fill them along with bits of bag at various stages of falling apart. If not cleaned up or managed a lot of the sand in the bags will end up in the drainage systems. The time to move the (temporary) bags is now, to avoid further compromising the already over whelmed drainage systems. if the bags are stored in a location out of sunlight, they would last till the next time there needed……………………………….Somehow, I don't think that going to happen. December 10, 201114 yr The best way to dispose of sand is to fabricate two long canvas bags to fit inside your trouser legs. Fasten the bottom of the bags with pins and attach string to the pins so that they can be pulled out, thus releasing the sand. Every time you go out take some sand with you and release it as you go along. Or, you could store it in your attic space, but there's a danger it will bring down the ceiling. "The Great Escape" is available on dvd.
December 10, 201114 yr You need to specify where your house is located. There is a limited range in which it makes practical sense to pick up sandbags and dispose of them. I have a property in Rangsit that is in need of approximately 3000 cubic meters of fill, a portion of which can be sand. However I won't be able to access the property for several weeks because the flood has not yet receeded, and it wouldn't make financial sense to transport the sand bags more than about 10 km anyway. You will need to find someone close to your area who has need for them.
December 10, 201114 yr empty bags onto garden, add cement at a ratio 4:1, mix together then build a big wall around property to protect house against future flooding.
December 10, 201114 yr Author We live in Bang Bo, not far off the Bang Na - Trat Highway. As I said... sandbags free to a good home. I was tempted to call them "Magic Sandbags" because the water was afraid to come within three miles of them! Anyone who wants them and can collect please PM me for further details. December 10, 201114 yr Dig em into your garden if you have one That's what we -actually our staff- did today... and we had more than three hundred of these sandbags. Edited December 10, 201114 yr by lazygourmet
December 10, 201114 yr I read that the ones who sold them will pick up for free (and sell to you again next time!)
