Ex-PM received many visitors in S'pore ahead of rumoured Cabinet reshuffle

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra started to feel uncomfortable receiving so many visits from seekers of Cabinet posts, MPs and ministers reportedly on the way out while he was in Singapore, a Pheu Thai Party source said yesterday.

Last Thursday and Friday, a former Thai Rak Thai party executive and his family went to see him. On Saturday, besides a foreign minister in the Thai Rak Thai administration, a current minister accompanied by a former Thai Rak Thai executive called on him, the source said.

Thaksin is scheduled to fly from Singapore to Cambodia tomorrow, so many former key members of the defunct People Power Party as well as Pheu Thai MPs might be planning to join him there, the source added.

Government Spokesman Anusorn Eiamsa-ard said Cabinet secretary-general Ampon Kittiampon reminded the ministers at their meeting to submit their three-month achievement reports in both hard and soft copies.

Democrat Party spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut dared the Pheu Thai Party to admit that fugitive Thaksin is the real decision-maker behind the anticipated Cabinet reshuffle.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Thaksin's younger sister, dodged questions from Government House reporters about a new Cabinet line-up.

"Let me go to the meeting first," she said before chairing a special Cabinet meeting on flood projects and budgets.

"Let's talk about it later," she told reporters after the meeting, when they asked whether the shake-up would take place next month.

Before the meeting started at 9am, many ministers who had been reported as possibly losing their Cabinet seats avoided reporters by arriving via the underground parking floor.

However, Deputy Commerce Minister Poom Sarapol took the unusual step of walking through where the reporters were gathered. No one interviewed him.

Pornsak Charoenprasert, the deputy agriculture minister from the Pheu Thai Party, said any change to the agriculture minister's office, which is now occupied by Theera Wongsamut from the Chart Thai Pattana Party, depended on key figures in the Pheu Thai and coalition parties.

Pheu Thai might have to take the post from Chart Thai Pattana's ministerial quota if the government wants a good plan for sustainable water management, he said.

"It's not that Theera's performance is bad. But he has had so little a role compared with former prime minister Banharn Silapa-archa, as we saw in the news," he said.

Banharn is the de facto leader of Chart Thai Pattana.

Somsak Prissananantakul, a key Chart Thai Pattana member, said it was not a good time to remake the Cabinet, as the government had to deal with many issues including restoring confidence after the flood.

"While Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has said clearly there will not be a Cabinet reshuffle, this is a signal for everyone to stop moving. According to etiquette, the ruling party should discuss [the matter] with coalition parties before a Cabinet reshuffle after they have worked together for some time.

"If the coalition party says it's not the time to change the minister in its quota, then that's it. Everything goes on according to the same positions. In case of changes, they must talk about suitability," he said.

One can't help but feel some sympathy for a (relatively young & politically-inexperienced) lady, visibly struggling to cope with her very-real political-duties, while many of the people who should be supporting her as leader, prefer to run off to foreign-shores to lobby her brother.

It does tend to undermine her authority, over her government, and over the party/movement as-a-whole.

Perhaps she should step-aside and let someone else take over, his name begins with a 'C' and he is a Deputy-PM, but in-keeping with Thai tradition I won't mention his name.

Pretty funny stuff. Well, during the campaign she referred to herself as a clone, so no surprise that MP supplicants are running off to Singapore to importune the real boss. A bit embarrassing for Thailand however.........

Pheu Thai MPs Flock to Meet Thaksin in Singapore

A number of Pheu Thai MPs went to see former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in Singapore amid speculation of a possible cabinet reshuffle after the New Year holidays.

The Pheu Thai Party revealed that former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was uncomfortable receiving so many visitors this past weekend in Singapore.

With an imminent cabinet reshuffle pending after the New Year holidays, Pheu Thai MPs reportedly flew to Singapore to see the ex-premier.

A former defunct Thai Rak Thai Party executive and a currently serving minister, along with another Thai Rak Thai key members also called on the ex-premier on Friday and Saturday.

A former foreign minister in the Thai Rak Thai administration also went to see him earlier last week.

Thaksin is reportedly scheduled to depart for Cambodia on December 14 where it is expected that more Pheu Thai Party MPs and former People's Power Party members will pay him a visit.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister's Office Deputy Spokesman Anusorn Iamsa-ard said Cabinet Secretary-General Amphon Kittiamphon reminded ministers to submit hard and soft copies of their three-month achievement reports.

Spending more time trying to whitewash Thaksin than on true governance

Deputy Chalerm with a horrible past trying to bully law and order and announcing his "findings" long before any investigation has started

Placing family members in top jobs such as Chief of Police

Placing friends in top jobs such as chief justice

Appointing cabinet members by favour rather than skill

Permitting the setting up of Nazi style red shirt villages

Give the people what they want. Bring back Thaksin, let them see first hand how wonderful he is. Lets get over the legend of Thaksin and have him back, see if he lives up to everyones expectations. Maybe he can improve the quality of life in Thailand, improve the economy, boost tourism, improve health care and education. Come back and show us Mr Thaksin, we need your expertise and inspiration. Because " Nobody does it better, makes me feel glad all the day, nobody does it quite as good as you, Thaksin your the best".

There's a difference between 'pilgrimage' and 'visit'. Pilgrimage is what a few Pheu Thai MPs went on to India sponsored by that kindly, amply-rich k. Thaksin. A visit to k. Abhisit is just that, Sukhumvit soi 39 I think, easy.

What all this has to do with 'Thaksin swamped by anxious politicos' I don't know. Maybe a few Pheu Thai politicos like to be amply-rich as well ?
