PHUKET: -- A Belgian man embroiled in several fraud cases in Phuket is in a coma at Vachira Phuket Hospital, where he is being kept on life support until his organs can be removed for donation, the Phuket Gazette has learned.

Long-time Phuket resident Yvon Van Eyersen, 58, was perhaps best known to Phuket residents as the manager of the now-defunct Easy Fitness Center, located just south of Central Festival shopping center, on Chao Fa West Road in Wichit.

Almost 2,000 members who paid 4,000-baht joining fees to the club lost out when the company closed abruptly in April 2009 and Mr Van Eyersen subsequently fled to Bangkok.

Following a tip-off to Phuket police, Mr Van Eyersen was picked up by police in February last year as he boarded a Bangkok-bound bus after visiting the island.

Mr Van Eyersen is understood to have served jail time until his release on bail about three months ago, the Gazette has learned.

Sources told the Gazette that Mr Van Eyersen was involved in at least three legal cases in Phuket, including one for the misappropriation of 6 million baht in customer investments from his Phuket Patong Assets Company in 2009.

His business dealings also led to the breakup of his marriage. His ex-wife, a principal in a company he controlled, was later cleared of any wrongdoing.

Hospital staff said Mr Van Eyersen was declared brain dead after suffering a stroke and slipping into a coma.

Staff at Vachira Phuket Hospital said that a relative of Mr Van Eyersen had signed organ donation release forms and that the Belgian Embassy was coordinating with the hospital to arrange transfer to Bangkok for an organ donation procedure.

RIP Yvon. Not a close friend, just lived across the road from me years ago. We made small talk in passing. At that time I knew he had a number of property businesses all called 'Easy' something or other. What a terrible way to pass.....

I met him a few times. Seems like he was doing quite a bit of development under the Easy brand. He talked about sponsoring schools for the underprivaleged but now I wonder if that was just a ruse to defraud.

Strange story, I was in Kamala at the Bkk bank on Saturday the 10th of December, and saw Mr. Yvon van Eyersen at the counter doing some banking.

And on Tuesday the 13th December I read in the Phuket Gazette that he is brain dead in a hospital in Phuket !

I know Yvon since he managed that Easy Fitness Center for a Dutch man named Jan, who was nearly killed in case of a new visa run business that went sour, But Jan managed the situation quit well and the attackers got a lesson in choosing the wrong enemy.

Please Stephen Fein, try to get some facts down on paper to see about Yvon Van Eyersen his were abouts and situation.

I nearly forget to mention, I was with 2 other people in the bank, one of them know him as well as she joined that fitness club a that time,

and another person who was with me in the bank as well knows him from the real estate office he was running next to the fitness club.

Hope someone can clear this up a bitt before we see ghosts running arround in Phuket.

Sincerely,

Ronny.

So he's alive trying to get out of the debts and death threats?

2000 members lost 4000b joining fee.. no.. members were pushed to get into a deal right before he left. He started having promotions for 3-6months upfront then he ran. more like 2000members lost on 10-15k baht, i cant remember exactly how much he stole from me.

so... 10th dec. you see him, 13th dec. (3 days later) he is brain dead - so he had his stroke between the two moments. That's hardly rocket science - why mention ghosts at all... or did I miss something?
