December 22, 201114 yr If it is just for the name and the hosting size then STOP! it sounds a LOT! Off the top of my head depending on the domain name but if it is new it wont be more than say 40-50 dollars for 2 years and some companies offer unlimited hosting for very small amounts of money. I think I cant post details of websites to help you so send me a pm and I will send you the name of the company I host with and it is dead cheap!!! With those prices God knows what they will charge you for site design etc! Just tell them you need to take 5 and think it over. You should have sorted it out BEFORE he bought anything but incase he is trying it on just slow down. I am looking at the new deals with the company I am with now. New .com names are 10 US a year and unlimited memory and bandwidth are 40 US per year ! Over to you!
December 23, 201114 yr Hi Sam, I live off my websites and I currently pay $9.99 a year for a domain name (I can get it slightly cheaper if I use a discount code) and $6.95 a month for unlimited web hosting. In total, for 2 years that would cost me $186.00 or 5790 baht. I get my domains through GoDaddy.com and my hosting is with BlueHost.com. You should perhaps look into buying the domains all your self and just have the designer do what he is paid for - designing the webpage. Also make sure to check he can do quality work - plenty of C and D grade designers.
December 23, 201114 yr Also, with your web hosting - cheap is not always good. They might not do off site back ups, they might have slow servers, ect. This happens when you go cheap for web hosting; At least 4800 Australian websites have been lost with no chance of recovery following a break-in at Australian domain registrar and web host Distribute.IT. Off the top of my head depending on the domain name but if it is new it wont be more than say 40-50 dollars for 2 years and some companies offer unlimited hosting for very small amounts of money. That depends on the host. I put my top clients on Media Temple. For the grid server (GS), it works out at 20 USD per month or 17 USD per month if the whole year is paid in advance. This is not cheap, but MT is in a league of ts own. For local clients, I use a company in Nonthaburi (24 Web Host) that offers hosting plus domain name registration for about 1500 Baht per year. The OP needs to ask who the host is. It's also unusual to be asked to pay for hosting and domain name registration separately. My company doesn't charge for these things as I ask clients to manage hosting by themselves. But companies that do offer a package will almost always charge an all-inclusive fee and (generally) ask for a deposit of 30-50% (depending on how the payments are structured). December 23, 201114 yr I design pages for a martial arts company, he pays me what we feels i shoud be owed., I do not dictate the amount that i want to be paid, so overall, i get paid usually by the work that i do, 7000 sounds alot to me, ive build an entire website for my friend and still never reached 7000 in total
December 23, 201114 yr Author Friends thank you so much for kind info, it's very helpful for me, thanks again
December 24, 201114 yr Please be warned, however, that "unlimited" hosting is NOT great for business/e-commerce applications. In the past I have used "low cost" solutions for my clients and have ALWAYS suffered at my expense (time wasted trying to get support for issues that SHOULD have been resolved, days on end with their server's IP ranges being black-listed because another user was spamming off them, etc, etc). Paying a little more pays a LOT of dividends. Not one of my customers has complained since I upgraded their hosting. I explained that I would absorb the cost for 1 year then increase the costs. I haven't lost a SINGLE customer due to this because they are all SO happy with the new hosting service I provide. Even then these costs being quoted are quite high.
December 24, 201114 yr I have many sites on shared hosting that costs under 30EUR per year, including the domain name. I also have some on more upmarket hosting that costs about 3 times that. I have a few on dedicated servers also, and that costs even more. All of them work well (if any hosting doesnt work well then the hoster is just crap, regardless of how much they charge, and you should change) but some sites need the superior connectivity, or some other feature like geo-localisation that the cheaper options just dont offer. So it's horses for courses.
