Gps Coordinates

Featured Replies

Gentlemen

I am asking a favor from the persons whom are familiar with GPS programs , specially Garmin brand. I am planning a trip to Chang Mai and Pai, mid of next week and would like to know the GPS coordinates for following cities.

Chiangmai

Monjam

Samerng

Pai Hot Spring

Huay Nam Dang

Pang Aung

I gave a try in google maps but I am not be able to get the codes out of it and I would appreciated your kind support on this. I am using the Garmin program on my PDA, not a Gramin standalone unit.

Regards and Merry Christmas to you all

Amal

You need to check the spelling of your locations. Google Maps does not recognize most of them.

You can use Google Earth to find the lat and long of those locations. See the attached image and you can see the coordinates at the bottom of the page, in this case showing the Pai Airport. The coordinates update as you move the cursor.

Google Maps also will give you the latitude and longitude, once you find the location.

Dear Sir,

I know how to read the coordinates from google. My issue is that I don't how to covert them to fit into my Garmin format. The Garmin program needs them in " hddd.ddddd(degree)". I wish someone will find the coordinates and convert them for me. Please don't blame for been too lazy. I just don't have enough time to learn these all now.

I got the citiy names in Thai too

เชียงใหม่

ม่อนแจ่ม

สเมิง

บ่อน้ำร้อนท่าปาย -

ห้วยน้ำดัง

ปางอุ๋ง

Google Maps gives you the co-ordinates in decimal format, the same format (h ddd.ddddd0) Garmin uses. All you have to do is add the hemisphere (h), "N" longitude and "E" latitude for Thailand. You enter the same co-ordinates in your Garmin GPS. Chiang Mia University is located at N18.799720, E98.954620.

I've been searching for your co-ordinates. Aside from the obvious one, Chiang Mia, I can find a hot spring, a national park, a Royal sponsored project, a couple of resort hotels, a mountain camp ground and a road name. Most of the names don't exactly match anything on Google or my Garmin GPS and certainly are not cities, so I have no idea what you are looking for.

The Garmin program needs them in " hddd.ddddd(degree)".

Change it in your Garmin Mobile XT.

There are free downloads that will convert coordinates to any format you want. You don't have to learn anything new.

I found so only 4 destinations:

Chiangmai 18.999803,98.657227

Monjam

Samerng

Pai Hot Spring 19.325561,98.422737

Huay Nam Dang 19.305149,98.599033

Pang (o)ung 19.500011,97.906337

Monjam and Samerng are wrongly spelled. Also the Thai script did not help.

Btw.: very nice destinations.

Good trip

Dear Helmut,

thanks for the codes. Also, thanks for the other memebers whom spend their time for my request. I might be able to find the remaining 2 locations with the help of google maps. I'll take my notebook with me this time.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you,

Amal

Dear Int.Observer,

Thanks for the codes. That's exactly what I was looking for and I already programmed them with my Garmin. Do you happen to be in Huai Nam Dang area recently? Is that area negotiable by a small car? The reason is that I have heard from some of my Thai friends that the road is not very good for cars and needs a pick up or similar vehicle.

Most of the sites you requested are in the mountains, one of them is at 1350 meters. You asked, we provided locations. I wouldn't take the wife's Honda Jazz on the trip.
