Psychiatrist Or Gp That Can Prescribe Antidepressents In Cm

It's my understanding that people prone to depression should make an effort to be around people, have social interactions, etc and not be holed up in their room all day, with their computer and TV as their only contact with the outside room.

It's very, very easy to meet English-speaking people in Chiang Mai. In fact that's one of the things I love about it -- the diverse and interesting group of expats. Check out activities in the CM Events section at the top of the forum. Activities are listed on other websites, too, like those for City Life magazine and the Expats club. The expats club has many OGAs -- outside activity groups. They're small groups of people with similar interests -- computers, photography, reading, hiking, bridge, other card and board games, etc, etc. The quiz nights at the local pubs are fun and you can always come early by yourself, tell the owner/host you'd like to join a group and bingo -- you'll be part of a quiz night team for the evening (just be sure your little group has a mix of nationalities to cover all the possible questions) The opportunities for meeting people are endless, not all involve drinking alcohol, some do -- up to you!

Great supplementary advice in addition to seeing a doctor Nancy, avoid excessive rumination and interact with positive people just like I read in that so-called bunk information product that got poo poo'd by one poster at-a-glance.

"Drug therapy can only suppress the symptoms of depression, but does nothing to address the underlying biochemical abnormality that is responsible for depression. Once a patient is on the drug band wagon, they usually go on the merry-go-round from one drug to another for maybe the rest of their lives. Several studies have shown that drug therapy and/or psychotherapy may leave about 60 per cent of patients with treatment resistant depression."

I never said don't go to a doc. but judging the mental maturity/capacity and hit-and-run of some of posters on the site, why bother.

the advice you offer is based in alternitive-to-medicine quackery and recommended as a substitute to REAL medicine which is really dangerous. I find it all very hard to take seriously, but in all seriousness, what you have recommended should be strongly advised against. That is all i really have to add, the good advise has been given otherwise.

No, I told the OP go to a doc and in addition look at the CBT education course and proven diet/supplements that regulate serotonin which have heavy documentary evidence of long-term success in mood /outlook vs putting a pharma pill on a problem for life.

The people I know who took mainstream anti-dep. meds did not get better and in tests with placebos, the results were the same for supposed anti-dep. medication.

Your fundamental assumption that mainstream medical advice is always right shows what a blind sheep you must be..In the next 20 years it will all come out how much worthless crap medicine was being fobbed off to the masses in the name of easy cash.

To take a random example , the whole statins cholesterol lowering industry was built on 7 out of 8 of the docs who recommended it being on the payroll of the company they were recommending (aka in their back pocket). Natural "quack" krill oil beats statins in every way in double blind tests vs the slow death on statins.

It all boils down to a customer for life for the pharma industry.

Next time your doc chooses a particular pharma pill for you know it was probably after a good few free rounds on the golf course and other buy-out gifts.

Perhaps people might take you seriously if you weren't so outspoken about your beliefs that prescription drugs were not the way to go.

I for one take a pill to help with water retention, one for high blood pressure, one for RLM that one is a mild anti depressant and all work fine. I have taken Lipator with disastrous side effects. I no longer take it. Yet I know people who have and are taking it with good results.

As for the Alternative things the industry is full of charlatans. It is not regulated so they can say any thing they want about a product with impunity and get away with it.

For instance Niacin is recommended for cholesterol. I took it with out any success. When I checked with my Doctor (Morgan) She looked into what was in the pills I was using and told me no wonder it did not help. Their was hardly any Niacin in it. Fortunately for me she knew where to get the pills with Niacin that would really work and my cholesterol is now in check.

The point is yes these things can and in my case do help but they are unregulated and open to quackery far more so than drugs from Chemical companies. And in many countries the side affects from prescription drugs are made public.

OP - Hope you're still with us.

Go have a chat with Dr Morgan after she returns, make that your starting point and read Nancy's post #30 again.

Good luck, keep well and Happy New Year!smile.png

I have battled through depression since 1991 and while I am in no way an expert but have tried so many alternative therapies and treatments, to the point that what has helped the prescribed medicine was exercise which I still battle doing, I attend a counsellor and of course the shrink who has been giving me the drugs, here in Australia now I see more and more Gp's are prescribing medicine anti depressants etc.

The advice that other's is great and having a good support network is something that is very helpful, and the support network can be the GP you find in Chiang Mai, the people that you have become mate's with and feel confindent to be able to chat with and also your support network in your country of origin.

With the internet now days you are only and can only be a mose click away from help.

See the GP you choose in Chiang Mai, remember not all will suit and may take time until you find one you are comfortable with.

Good luck with it all and it is an old saying but Don't give up
