Did a visa run yesterday. going out very quick, around 10am. Coming back in the queue was out the door and four deep all the way back to the road. All the booths were manned and the staff all seemed quite happy but took at least a couple of hours to get through. Luckily it was cool and breezy so not bad that way.

Never seen it so busy for a long, long time.

Mostly back packers from what I could see.

Merry Christmas.

Forgot to add, I usually park in the original big car park in the market and walk from there to the border. On the way you will come across a couple of guys who will try to convince you that the Cambodia side of the border is closed for Xmas and they can do your visa for you in the market area. Please don't even think about it and if you know anyone who is going up there during this holiday season make them aware of it. Both sides are business as usual and I can't imagine what sort of problems you would end with if you fell for it and used these guys to get a visa for you.

Happy New Year.

... making the quick visa run to Poipet tomorrow ... procedures are always uncertain in these environs.

... any quick updates? ... has there been any change in the standard operating procedure?

  • Enter Thailand Immigration Departures; stamped out of Thailand;
  • Stop just over bridge at Cambodian Health, on the left just short of the Ankor Gate; submit application;
  • Cross the street to the new Cambodian Visa On Arrival Building, at the base of the Ankor Gate; pay US$ 20; provide 1 photo; submit application (filed as "tourist, 30-days"); get Cambodia visa;
  • Walk on same side of street down to the roundabout; enter Cambodia Immigration Arrivals; submit application; stamped into Cambodia;
  • Walk across street to Cambodia Immigration Departures; stamped out of Cambodia;
  • Walk back to Thai Immigration Arrivals; stamped into Thailand.

... anything more to add, other than politely declining the touts offers of VIP assistance?

... any tea money expected by the Cambodian Visa On Arrival Officers at the window?

Can't imagine anything has changed, but, remember it's Songkran and there may be a lot of people on the move. Take care on the roads.
