travelmann
This are the result, as we don,t care about our earth ! Thanks to all pollution and more from us, and our travel, and car driving and industry. It,s a shame about the climate meetings, who not get any result at all. High wind and waves all around the year soon, and also. Have experience from Thailands East Coast and Langkawi, as a sailor and can inform about these winds and storm, who appear soon all around the year. Load of crap as usual its the global warming tripe, 50 years isnt even the blink of an eye for an event ( more non event) like this. Its windy and there are some big waves????? whats the problem you live near the sea expect this to happen occasionally. It also give the papers tv something to bore us to death with also now the flooding has subsided, we can add it to the daily shows of blokes in white coats with medals?? being bored stiff at yet another ceremony. I think that the crap you refer to is emanating from your fingers touching the keyboard - I suppose you think the world is round and the holocaust never happened!!!!! ????????? -500 Probably faked by the astronauts in Apollo 8 though eh?? RPCVguy
Thanks for posting the video Michemiche, though I wondered at times as to whether you risked having an errant wave prematurely end the video shoot. To all those along the affected shoreline - much sympathy is due. Anyone who has lived through a storm that threatened their home - or damaged/ destroyed it, knows the feelings of disruption and violation can linger. Our community suffered a flash flood last year that still has repairs uncompleted. Each of several major rains during this season's monsoons sent people to watching the river with greater interest. Bangkok residents will take years to release the hardships they've had this year. Thailand's kind weather has had more hardships added lately. Looks like some people here are burying their heads in the sand ( even though its quite wet). Fact, global temperatures are increasing, the ice caps are melting at a worrying and recently increasing rates and all this is in the scientific domain. All national governments went to Durban recently to come up with further ways to reduce man-made emissions which are affecting our systems. Respectfully, I would hope most people here are of sufficient education to recognise this ongoing problem or else why do we have all those specialists in all our universities across the globe researching these problems. I believe too these global changes are/ will affect the hotter regions of the world first because temperature increase has greater effect in places like far east rather than western Europe. Of course Thailand's problems this year could be a very big blip but I think its worth going with the scientists too. We agree on concern for the global issues. This storm is just one storm, it proves nothing... though the frequency of bigger weather events is worth noting. While I often disagree with Rick, he summarized well the data I've seen as to warming concentrating 1st towards the polar regions and on the volume of polar ice... except I'd disagree as to the peninsular region of Antarctica. And while Rick is correct that there are natural reasons that the earth is warming, he neglected the fact that the rate / amount of warming is greater than accounted for by natural factors alone. So again thanks for the general reminder that future extreme weather events may not be as infrequent as the concept of a "50-yr event" implies. In the middle of the system in hong kong its sunny no wind but as the H/P system turns in a clock wise rotation the out edges have extreme winds and Hua hin bay just happens to be right in the path A freak coincidence maybe never seen again. wish people would do some research before posting
Beetlejuice
I guess if its not your house, your friends or your family, it must be quite humorous. I, however, don't find alot of humor in it as we have many relatives that live in this area and our place, and our neighbors have all been affected. I totally agree. It never becomes serious until this affects people personally. I hope that nothing like this ever happens to any of my family or friends and then we become entrainment for the merriment of some morons on here? Too much of this lately online. Where other people’s tragedies become amusement and entertainment for the benefit of creeps and those without compassion. Sad, sad, sad people. Probably a product of an abused childhood of just plain boneheads.

Can't believe so many people have been brainwashed to believe this global warming crap. Antarctic Sea Ice for November Extent Concentration 2009 16.3 million sq km 11.6 million sq km 1995 16.0 million sq km 11.4 million sq km 1979 15.9 million sq km 11.2 million sq km Records began in 1979 by the way, and the ice has only been growing since. Here is another fact: If the Arctic icecaps did melt, they would interrupt the Atlantic conveyor, and plunge most of Europe into an ice age. Hmmm, is that why the changed the name from 'global warming' to 'climate change'? How gullible are you exactly? Sorry to those affected by this STORM, I am not making light of it. Just annoying when all these sheeple have to jump on the soapbox everytime there is a minor weather event somewhere in the world. Read Michael Crighton's STATE OF FEAR Yes alright its a work of fiction but just check up on the references he uses they are also in the scientific domain. Look at the graphs of temperature increase over the last 100-150 years, explain why some glaciers are advancing not retreating and why the thickness of some icefields is increasing. How many of the predictions of global warming made by these scientists have been correct? Remember that these experts can't even predict what the weather will be like in a months time. Climate is cyclic over aeons. We have such a tiny impact on this massive massive Earth of ours. I wish these freaks would disappear or stop swallowing all the lines they're fed on a daily basis. Although there'd be no fun in that! Just got back today from my yearly family hols in the Andaman and it was serene and beautiful sunshine on Lanta (from Koh Ngai)! Had to replan my NYE in the Ao Thai area (Khanom / Koh Tao) as I'd heard that some foreigners have died somewhere in the region. I can't seem to get any definitive information about that. Anyone know? Sympathies go out to those affected. Edited December 27, 2011 by ManInSurat

Of course Thailand's problems this year could be a very big blip but I think its worth going with the scientists too. Yes you are correct about the effects of global warming. However, the jury is out as to whether they are caused by humans, or natural events- there has been a gas field on fire in a central Asian country for 40 years, volcanoes pour far more carbon etc into the atmosphere than zillions of cars. Anyway, do you seriously think that we are all going to give up on fossil fuels in the near future, and "cap and trade" etc are just huge cons. I think that it's caused by forces outside our control, and we have as much say about our survival as a species as the dinosaurs had. Remember that the world will survive, but we may not- it's called NATURE. To add a Thai related aspect to this, it's a tragedy for those affected, but they may be able to take some comfort in that that it wasn't caused by them cutting down all the trees. Something else of interest- it doesn't snow in the Antarctic as the air is too dry. If the temperature increased to the point that it could snow, more water would be deposited there. Everything is balanced out eventually.
