Ear Specialist Required

Featured Replies

I live some 200km south of Chiang Mai and am desperately in need of an ear specialist who knows what he is doing. About 4 months ago I suffered a serious bout of ear ache which, after a week, went away and left me with impaired hearing. Went to the local hospital and they found no wax blockage, but the tests showed me to have reduced hearing. At a cost of 16,000 they made me a hearing aid. Unfortunately the pain has returned so now I think I really should find a specialist. If anyone can recommend someone, especially who speaks English I would be most grateful.

Unfortunately I can't recommend an ear specialist from personal experience but the PINNED TOPIC above of Medical Specialists does point to the Ear Eye Nose and Throat department of Ram Hospital which is the first place I would go to with such a problem. Maybe someone who has experience of an ear specialist will post.

I went to this ENT Doctor with an ear problem on the recommendation of orang37:

Dr. Rat

81 Thannon Chang Phueak

053-213-003

Monday-Friday 5:30PM-8PM

Saturday 9AM-12PM

He was good, spoke excellent English and prices were very reasonable. He practiced in the USA for a while.

He has a clinic at Sripat also but I don't know what days or the hours.

I have hearing aids and all they do is help with my hearing. They do not take pain away. I never heard of them for doing that.

Hard to compare hearing aids here with back home as the money makes a big difference. Each of mine cost 75,000 baht.

There is a shop in Pantip Plaza here in Chiang Mai that will give you a hearing test and get you hearing aids judged on the results of your test. Know nothing of the cost over here.

Judging by the previous posts you are in good hands here for the medical aspect of it.

Good Luck

Go and see Dr Chalermpong, I can recommend him as he did a great job about 7 or so years ago. I'm not a favourite of CM Ram, however for him I do make the exception.

I'm favoring RAM less and less and am now totally reliant on the medical skills at Sripat, a much better deal all around in terms of quality and cost.

Totally agree with you and now my favourite. Many doctors at Sripat also do work at other hospitals or/and have their own clinics as well. CM Ram after all is listed on the Stock Exchange so have to listen and make profits for their shareholders. Meaning, they have to make money. However Dr Chalermpong did a great job on me at some stage and even though he recommended a second opinion I declined as I felt so confident with him, so most probably not a "shark" He's a soft spoken and caring guy that listen and cares for his patients. In MHO.

I hope the OP, lincdales, lets us know how it all turns out. I'm worried about him, but can't offer any advice, certainly not any more than the excellent advice s/he's received on this forum. It's especially troubling that there is pain in the ear. This isn't simple hearing loss and I hope the OP finds relief.

Dr.Chalermpong .

I have been under his care for a long time now with an ongoing ear problem , he is one of the most caring thoughtful doctors I have come across... ever. He had no problem with me getting a second opinion , which I did ,but came back to him. I cannot speak highly enough about the guy.

Speaks perfect English and goes out of his way to explain things in layman's terms
