Hello folks

I have a double entry visa, the first 60 day stamp is valid until 30th of December.

Now, from what I could find out, I can get a 30 (or only 28 for double entry? i read contradicting info) day extension without leaving the country, I'll just have to go to the immigration office here in Chiang Mai.

I guess it won't be possible to go to the office to make my 2nd 60 days valid? That would contradict the naming of that visa.

I won't do a boarder run right now, so please don't give this as an option.

Anyway, my question is:

If I go there, will the 30(28) days be valid from the day on that I've been to the immigration office or will the first day of the new visa start after the day my current visa is running out?

I'd like to go there now, because I wanted to go to Pai tomorrow. But if the new visa period will begin from the day on that I've been to the immigration, I'll have to wait.

Has anyone of you been to the Chiang Mai immigration office in the last days/weeks? The city is less crowded than it usually is at this time of the year so I thought it might be the same with the immigration office. Would be nice if someone could comment on that.

You are applying for an extension of permission to stay, they will add 30 days to the current period, not the date you apply. Just be sure to exit and make the second visa entry before the "use by date".

Thank you very much!

The use by date won't be a problem. In fact I might not even use the second 60 days (sadly).

i went there yesterday and they were quite busy,

but that was a monday so maybe that was the reason,

can't you goto mai sai to activate your second visa then pai on the way back ?

chris5346: I could go to Mae Sai, but that I don't think that will be any cheaper in the end, so there's no gain in it for me.

Lite Beer: Thanks for the confirmation. So both of you guys mentioned 30 days. I wonder where I read that it was 28 days for people with double entry visa.

Thanks again for all the quick replies. This board seems to be very very active.

Taken from Police order 777/2551

2.4 In the case of tourists:

Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 30 days at a time but not exceeding 90 days in total, counting from the entry date.

i also read something about 28 days in the past it may have been someone talking about full days ?

i'm not sure when the first day of the 30 extension starts ? maybe on the 60 th day or 61st day of your stay ?

i would have thought you can stay 60 + 30 days but the last day maybe only a half day because you have to leave on that day.

if your going to activate your second 60 day entry and your visa is only valid for 3 months from issue you need to be aware of the the 2 different dates in your passport and do the border run on the correct day.
