BANG SARAE: --An 8 year old Thai-Australian girl’s life is in the balance after a scare on Bang Sarae Beach involving used hypodermic needles. The girl was with her Mother, Khun Somjit aged 37, a resident of Pattaya, and the pair was enjoying a day at the beach while her Australian Husband, who works in the Oil & Gas Industry, works away from home. The young girl, known as “Nong Asia” was playing on the beach and suddenly screamed in pain. Her mother saw that a used needle was stuck inside her finger. The pair rushed to the Bangkok Hospital Pattaya where medical staff conducted a range of blood tests on the child to ensure she did not pick-up anything from the needle. Unfortunately the tests will take some time and for now the family anxiously waits for the results.

I don't want to play down the potential dangers of being impaled by a used needle, but isn't the Pattaya One heading a little dramatic ?

I concur with Cardholder.

Although the headline did serve its purpose. I read the article

The needle would have had to have been used in the last 15 minutes to present any danger.

I'm sure lying in the sun on a beach would sterilize it even quicker.

I concur with Cardholder.

No, the nonchalance of Thais with regard to their dirty beaches wins again! Why are we and the millions of visitiors so quickly in denial? The sun and sand have sterilized the needle? Wonderful! What about Tetanus and other deseases one can get from tons of debris all over the beaches from Bang Saen to Bang Sarae?

They're not heading there - they've always been there.
