rak sa_ngop
เขาถูกจับผิดตัวได้ยังไง I can't work out if this chap was arrested for doing wrong or wrongly arrested. What do you think? Thanks Taken from a Sue Grafton novel 'F is for Fugitive'
AjarnPasa
I think I'd translate this as "How did he come to be wrongfully arrested?"
ZeroDesire
Agree with ArJarn Pasa. Or I would say "how did he get arrested wrongfully."
RickBradford
I think I'd translate this as "How did he come to be wrongfully arrested?" ... or perhaps 'mistakenly' arrested to reflect the 'ผิดตัว' bit? Not much in it, perhaps.

Not much in it, perhaps. I agree, possible that 'wrongful arrest' is a more 'technical/legal' term. I suppose context would help sort that one out. luckyfarang
I think I'd translate this as "How did he come to be wrongfully arrested?" ... or perhaps 'mistakenly' arrested to reflect the 'ผิดตัว' bit? Not much in it, perhaps. I agree with Rick Bradford and would translate this as "How could he be mistakenly arrested?" The use of ผิดตัว indicates to me that they are referring to a case of mistaken identity. The term for false arrest (wrongful arrest) would be จับมั่ว "to arrest at random" Edited January 7, 2012 by luckyfarang
rak sa_ngop
Thanks for the replies. i was not sure if จับผิด might have been a compound word meaning to be arrested for committing a a wrongful act. It seems like everybody agrees that it was a false arrest whether it be wrongful or mistaken. I think in the context of the story it was probably a wrongful arrest i.e.they got the right man but he had not commited the crime (or do I mean mistaken arrest? Now I am really confused)
