I've read quite a few unflattering remarks concerning the BiB on the forum which lead to me wondering about whether it has always been like this

Do people feel that there has been improvement in the professionalism in the way the Police in Thailand carry out their duties?

A comparison going back at least a few years + would be great.

I consciously try [and succeed] to stay clear of any sort of interaction with the BIB....

I believe locale has everything to do with the density numbers of coppers.

Frankly, we might go a couple months [life in the countryside] without even seeing a brownshirt, less interacting.

The population centre here [surin City] is not without it's expected law enforcing scoundrels....one just never sees them. Far too busy with their new business ventures - discos, bath houses, pubs, etc.

The only time I've had dealings with them is when I've done something I shouldn't have been doing.

above and beyond it's many other iniquities, thailand's police are the country's national shame.

the national law enforcement force, charged to uphold the law and protect and serve the people, possessing royal patronage no less, is in tragic, actual fact the by a long way the largest, most powerful, best organised and most heinously self preserving and blatant criminal organisation in the country.

they are the absolute scum of the earth.

Historically, policing systems [in general] exist only to criminally organise.

Protecting the establishment is just a cover....a ruse.

I had a 13,000 baht stolen from my hotel room last year, I told the hotel management in the hope that I could have a look at the CCTV. The management insisted that they call the police, I insisted that they didnt, the hotel management went ahead and called anyway.

Its a sad day when you regret involving the hotel management because you just know you have opened a whole new can of worms by involving the police. If you gave me the choice of accepting the 13K loss or involving the police I would take the loss.

So what happened? They turned up......the CCTV identified the only person in my room during the period of the theft as an easily recognizable hotel worker, the police interviewed him, then asked me if I still had money ( I did ), then announced that as the hotel worker had no convictions during the previous year it couldnt possibly be him.

I wonder how the interview went? Lets go 50/50 and we will tell the stupid farang to *&f off? or was it 60/40?
