Crown 99 From Red Bull No Longer Available

Upcountry

Recommended Posts

I just talked to Red Bull headquarters, as well as I could with language difficulties, to find out why I can't buy Crown 99 anymore.

As far as I could tell, the Crown 99 blend is no longer being produced.

I prefer to drink whiskey (or whisky blends) plain or with juice, rather than with soda, which is harder to find these days (as well).

I've tried some other types, but I find them too harsh. Any suggestions for an alternative? I don't want to pay the higher price for imports right now.

Maybe the Crown and the soda that Red Bull makes are just temporarily unavailable due to flood damage, but my local Lotus store people also talk like Crown is gone for good.

Is it whisky you want or cheap spirits?

From what I see of the locals,

Sang Som, rum I believe about 200 a bottle.

Hong Thong, bottle says blended spirits, again about 200 a bottle.

Blend 285, whisky also in the 200 baht a bottle range.

All the above are I think only 35%.

Onto the 300 baht plus,

William Lawson and 100 pipers.

500 baht range, 100 Pipers do a perfectly accepatable 8 year old blend.

Not whisky but bourbon, Heaven Hill are doing 1 litre bottles for 565 baht.

A new one on the scene is Grandee, 200 baht a bottle, this may be brandy.

Whatever happened to Master Blend?

These cheap ass labels have a habit of coming and going.

Havent seen Sang Thip in years.
